Do You Take Your Laptop Computer to WDW

I do, definitely. It made it very easy to go back to the room, upload pictures and video and keep it clear for each day. I did try to get on the internet (two separate occasions) at Port Orleans FQ but was unable to. I was on with tech support for quite a while (very nice gentleman, very knowledgable, I'd suggest using them) and we assumed it was my anti-virus software. I was a little annoyed (at my computer) as it's only a few months old (the laptop). It has Windows Vista on it so that could be a reason also. I even got rid of all my anti-virus software and it still wouldn't work. I was bummed. Soooo ... as a tester, I'm borrowing my old laptop back (sold it to a friend), with XP on it, and seeing if it was Vista or not. Tech support never had the problem before that I had, lol! Go figure. Anyone else encounter this?

And I forgot to put the laptop away one day but it was still there. Regardless, I'd do my best to put it away out of eyesight, just in case.

Pictures, Pictures and more Pictures. Also Fantasy Football. GO PATS:sohappy:

My DH has a laptop from work that has a wireless card that works where ever we get cell phone service so I actually do not have to use Disney's system and pay.

Laptops and cell phones are two of the things we escape from. It amuses me to see people absorbed in cell phone conversations in the middle of WDW. What a waste of vacation time.

Except when I'm trying to track down my teens who have been on their own for the day and tell them where to meet us for dinner.

To each his own my friend, to each his own.

We take both of our laptops. I use mine for photo dumps and editing, and to keep with email. I won't do work stuff unless there is an emergency, and I rarely do Disney boards while I'm there. I try to plan email for every other day, but sometimes I just want to unwind in the evneing by surfing my favorite sites rather than flipping through channels.

I usually take one, mostly to dump my picture cards at the end of the day and make trip report/news updates from the room, and I usually have a friend at home that will post news for me if it's just happening. I also use it to check up on things back home at night and for the flights down and back. I've never really had a problem with it getting messed with or anything.

Yup, we'll be bringing ours too. For all the reasons mentioned and for school too.

I anticipate one or another of us spending about an hour or so after we've packed it in for the day.

I guess I just like not having everyday distractions while on vacation. We have even gone without a camera. I started a thread about this a long time ago and people were freaking out about how they would never go without a camera. Of course, we are regulars of at least once a year, sometimes twice and discovered how much better the world is without so much planning and preparation. We don't have children, so my wife and I travel in the slower season (usually May and early December). We have even toured all four parks with absolutely no plans, no ADR's, taking it slow and easy enjoying the atmosphere, landscape and little things often missed. These have been our best trips ever.

Not having kids I don't have a reason to try to round them up and I did not mean any disrespect to you. Having discovered a better way (for us) has made all the difference in the world. I highly recommend going empty-handed with no plan and slowly enjoying the day sometime if you ever get to go when the parks are less crowded. It completely changed our way of doing the World.

I didn't feel any disrespect at all, I'm just looking at it from another point of view. I haven't been to WDW without kids (not even as a kid, I was 17 my first trip), but we don't use our phones to talk to people while we are in the parks. I don't work and the DH does not have a job that he would need to check in (office or email) so when we are on vacation is just family fun time. We have been at busy times and at slow times. I always have a camera because with kids you just never know what type of opportunity will come along; I've gotten a few once in a life time type of shots.
We have used the phone to call back home and let them know its warm and toasty while its snowing there. :lookaroun

We don't keep itineraries and this past March is the first time we ever made ADR's (and its a good thing too!). We are on vacation and all we want to do is relax and spend time together because once you have kids (and especially when they hit those teen years) that time is hard to come by.

My point was that one should never really make broad generalizations because you never know another's situation.

Since I'm the only one in my office who knows how to do my part of the work, I have to check email every day while I'm gone. So yes, I take my lap top. I dream of the day when I can take a real vacation!

I have to bring it or else I'd have to buy excessive amounts of memory cards to put my pictures on!

After the rest of the family is in bed I like to sit up and look at my pictures and go online for a bit.

I bring mine to download my pics at the end of the day. Then I can review them to see if there is something I missed or if I want to re-take a certain shot.

I have only taken it periodically in the past but usually take it to just dump my pictures at the end of the day. My daughter dumps hers on it as well then we go through what we have at night. We generally will make a powerpoint out of the best pictures and send it to family and friends so they can see what we did on our vacation it is one of the things we like to do while there and when we get home.

Also, it is just a way to unwind by writing or playing games on it. I have a hard time sleeping some times and this tends to help. The girls use it to watch movies and stuff as well.

I take mine too. I download the pictures at the end of the day & also I have a spreadsheet with my itinerary on my computer. I make any necessary changes to the itinerary. We don’t stick to the itinerary word for word but it’s just good to have an idea of what we want to do the next day based on what we didn't get to the previous day . Also the spreadsheet helps to remind me what day, where & when we have reservations. Before the age of computers I could remember all that stuff. Now I can't remember anything without my computer. You don't think it might have something to do with getting older do you??? ... Naaaahhhh!!!!!
