I want the lap bars back because I need something to hold on to (now my hubbys arm has to do the work). When we used to go, if I got assigned the seatbelt seat I would make my husband switch with me.

I always thought they put in the seat belts for all the thrill seekers--I thought the only people who complained were those like me who need something to hold on to. I also didn't know they lost a seat....why are there fewer seats now?

I don't miss them because they really scared me. I was between my dad, who is bigger than me, and a very overweight man. It was pretty scary. I prefer being constrained with the seat belts.

Does anyone know what happned and why they changed? Could it have been stricter safety or did they do it because in California, they built their Tower of Terror with seatbelts? I wish they would put it back the old way. What do you all think

The lapbars were removed due to the new more powerful drop profiles being used in the Tower4 Update.

"The seat belts being installed (replacing the lap bars) are in response to the surprisingly more powerful nature of the new version. In the transition from Lap Bars to Seatbelts, one seat per elevator will be lost. 22 people to 21 people. The seat being removed is the old "seatbelt seat." They'll all be a bit wider now so there's enough room to each belt." http://www.wdwmagic.com/tower_info.htm

If I had to choose between having the Lapbars or the new Drop Profiles, I'll take the Drop Profiles anydays and gladly buckle my seatbelt.

My daughter is very petite, and always has been--she really misses the airtime on TOT. She's so tiny, she even gets airtime on Big Thunder!

When it had the lapbars I was 60 pounds heavier, so the bar was always snug on my lap, everyone else in my row had airtime. Now I put the seatbelt over my bellybag and get airtime. The bars were good for holding on to, my partner always gets seated next to someone who grabs his leg to hold on to, lol.

Never have been on it, but supposedly I'm riding next month for the first time ever. The thought of individual seat belts sounds way more comforting than one bar. I hate feeling weightless. lol

I'm not someone who scares easily on thrill rides. But I find it incredibly uncomfortable now that I don't have something to hold on to.

lol I get airtime on Big Thunder haha That part where it looks like you're going to hit the wall but then you go down...I always get lifted out of my seat.

I used to get a lot of air time with the lap bars. Air time is a little trickier with the seat belts, but still very possible. A couple of ways:

1. Sit forward in the chair when buckling. This works if the CM makes you raise your hands, but doesn't if he makes you sit back.

2. Put something (hand, fannypack) between you and the belt. Problem with the hand option is that the CM may make you raise your hand. Problem with the fannypack option is that you may not have one.

3. Push some of the belt under your bottom just prior to buckling. No downsides with this option.

I am certainly not recommending that anyone engage in these highly dangerous activities. :lookaroun
