Do you have stairs in your house?

I'm thinking of getting mine carpeted. Hard wood is much more attractive and durable but some padding would be nice in case grandma has another accident. What do you think?

My stairs are not carpeted, but I've also been considering it now that I'm getting older. I didn't bother with my children...they didn't fall down them too many times ;), but their bones were nice and supple then...mine are getting brittle! ;)

Mine are carpeted and I'm thinking about taking it off.

Vacuuming stairs is my least favorite job (so I don't do it very often and it shows!!)

It is no fun holding the vacuum and dragging that tiny attachment thingy (if you can find the blasted thing!) across each stair.

You could just put big, fluffy pillows at the bottom of the stairs. Most of the people in my family fall UP the stairs. :hammer:

I just had a childhood flashback, of sliding down the wooden banister railing of our house.

WWEEEEEEEEEE ! :sohappy: :sohappy:

OK.. the adult in me, just came back from the daydream, and wishes for those carefree days of my youth again :(

We had carpeting on the stairs, it was 20+ years old and was connected to the back door. The carpeting was in really bad shape. Yes if felt comfortable, but it had its drawbacks: vacuuming as someone said, carpet cleaning (I had to do it), and filth buildup. But this summer we changed it to hard wood floors! And that was ONE MAJOR TASK! We used the old fashioned kind that's 3/4" thick and had to deal with rounding off the noses of the wood, measuring the wood to perfect sizes, using math skill to figure out odd angles on the stairs, reenforcing the steps, and a whole lot more. It was one heck of a task, but now it looks really nice. The only prob now is that it's not as comfy to walk up and down the stairs :( I guess I'll stick with slippers then?

Growing up, our stairs were carpeted. My brother and I would take turns bumping down in a slippery sleeping bag~ It was so much fun! Probably not safe for your grandma though.

I agree..carpet gives traction for grandma. And use to do the same thing slide down the stairs. My parents have stairs...then we have two sets of spiral stairs. I have almost slid down the spiral stairs...not fun OUCH.

Oh God! I came home one day to find my daughter doing that with her little brother! She had piled sofa cushions against the door, so they had a bumper at the end. Neither one was hurt, and my son (probably between 2-3) thought it was great! He was squealing with delight. ;)
