Do you clean, too?

Let me elaborate. My mother always, always feels obligated to clean up and make our beds before we leave to go to the parks every morning, whether it's somewhere like Pop Century or at the Boardwalk Inn. My sister and I find this really weird, considering that's kind of what the (awesome! :)) maids are supposed to do. I was just wondering if this is unusual or if any of you do this as well while staying on property resorts?

I don't make the beds, but I do tidy everything else up. No need to live like pigs, even on vacation! :D

Ah yes, another rsoxguy TMI post. Aside from making the bed, which is too much work for the cost of the room, I am fanatical about keeping the room clean for departure on a daily basis. This would include trash on counters or tables, trash on floors, towels neatly placed in one stack, clothing hung or in drawers, bathroom sink and counters, etc. etc. etc. Yes, I am slightly annoying in the eyes of family members, but probably a darling to the housekeeping staff of hotels throughout the land.

We stay at DVC resorts and housekeeping only comes in twice a week, so I always make the bed and tidy up, even though my family thinks I'm nuts.

I don't find it unusual. I usually find myself tidying up, while others are getting ready. I don't want to known as a pig by the mousekeepers.

We do not make the beds but we do keep the room very neat. I would go crazy otherwise I think. 4 people in one room for a week is bad enough, if it were a mess I could not do it. We keep our dirty laundry in a large garbage bag in the closet area. We don't leave any thing on the floors or furniture. We keep our suitcases neatly stacked in the closet area.

Also if you don't keep it tidy, how can the maids keep the room clean? The counters can't be wiped down if they are covered with stuff, the floor can't be vacuumed if covered with stuff, etc.

I'm with others who "tidy" the room a little before leaving, but don't come anywhere close to "cleaning" it before heading out for the day.

I'm one who tends to kick the covers off as I sleep, so I'll at least make sure they're picked up and tossed onto the bed in the general direction they're supposed to be. By no means do I actually MAKE the bed properly.

Trash always goes into the wastebaskets.

I usually use a bottom drawer of the dresser for dirty clothes, so I don't have a pile of stuff building up in the corner.

Towels are either hung up if they're to be reused, or towels to be replaced are at least gathered together in one lump either in the tub or in the corner of the floor next to the tub.

I don't make the beds but I do pull the covers up instead of leaving them wadded up and messy. I make sure that garbage is in the garbage and counters and tables are tidy. I also put all of my dirty towels in one pile and keep dirty clothes in a seperate laundry bag. These are things I would like to think that most people do. To leave a mess and say that's what the maids are for is just rude to me.

Don't laugh, but I clean the room when we get there. I disinfect the bathrooms and remote and all of that the very first day. I don't want someone getting sick if I can keep from it.

I also clean the room each morning before we leave and I try to keep it clean all of the time. With five of us, it can be a task but to stay organized I have to do it. :)

I usually always tidy our room up a bit each morning before we head out for the day. Going to be interesting in March to see how difficult that is this time around though. You see, we usually get two adjoining rooms each trip due to the fact that we usually have my mother-in-law and my brother along for the ride with the four of us. So we usually end up with the 3 guys in one room and the 3 girls in the other one. I am kinda of a neat freak and can't stand a big mess, so I would usually try to keep our room pretty tidy all the time. The girls room...forget it! My daughter always has all her stuff strewn all over their room. Makeup and hair products ALL OVER the sink area! Clothes thrown on the floor everywhere. What can I say, typical teenage girl. :brick:

So like I started to say, this next trip is going to be interesting. My brother and mother-in-law both backed out on us just recently, so for the first time, it looks like it is going to be just the four of us. We are all kinda bummed that they can't come this time, but at the same time, my wife and I keep telling the kids it will be fun with just the four of us. A little family bonding might be nice. But of course we are just going to have the one room this time with all four of us in it. The kids are now grown teens and still just as messy as ever, so I am kind of afraid that I will not be able to keep the room as organized as I usually do with both of them in the same room. Only time will tell I guess, and why worry about it and ruin a nice family trip.

I pull the sheets and blankets up on the bed and make sure things are put away and neat in the room, and that nothing is left on the floor for the maid to pick up. I also take larger trash items out (pizza boxes, soda cans, etc) of the room to the trash containers outside before we leave in the mornings. My son always laughs at me cleaning up Before the maid comes...

Agree 100%. I always pile up the dirty towels in one corner of the bathroom but the rest of the room is "neat". I don't clean but certainly do not leave a disaster.

My kids left their stuffed animals on the bed the after the first night and when we came back to the room, the mousekeepers had them all aranged in the window. My kids thought it was so cool and they left them on the bed each morning to come back to find them arranged differently every night. :)

Me too :) I saw a television show once that said the remote is the dirtiest thing in a hotel room. I always bring a container of sani wipes with me and clean the remote, lightswitches and doorknobs right away!

My DW does tidy up the room a bit before we go. At home I'm a neat freak, but for some reason on vacation, I find myself saying "Honey, dont worry about that, it's what they are paid to do, lets go!" while she gets the room in order.
I think if it were up to me, all of my stuff would be neat and tidy, but I wouldnt bother with the towels, sheets, etc. They would be wherever they ended up from getting ready to go out.

We try and make the room easier for MK to clean. One odd thing I do at the parks is pick up after slobs who throw their trash on the ground. If I see a water bottle or ice cream wrapper on the grounf or in a bush, I'll put it in the trash.
