Do they let you take a wheeled suitcase and a garment bag on Space Mountain?

Okay, here's my question.

(I did a search and couldn't find anything that pertained to this particular issue.)

We're taking a cruise at the end of May. A non-Disney one. We're docking in Port Caneveral, and would be flying out of MCO. Since DH and I have APs, we'd like to swing by the parks after they boot us off the ship early in the morning. My question is, since we're not renting a car, or staying overnight on property, what would we do with our cruise luggage while visiting the park for those few hours?

I know they have lockers on site, but I doubt they'd be big enough to store our bags from the cruise. We're DVC members... does anyone think that maybe bell services could hold them for a couple of hours while we go to the parks?

Or am I just getting greedy for wanting to spend the day in the parks while we're down there. If it can't be done, we'll just take an earlier flight home. But since we're in Orlando anyways, and we have passes, I thought we might as well use them.

Thoughts anyone?

I would call one of the monorail resorts directly and speak with the resort manager or front desk manager to see if they can help. How are you getting form the ship to the parks and then to the airport??

I don't know for certain, but I think wheeled bags are prohibited in general at the parks. (Like, no rolling coolers and such.) That might be your first problem.

Space Mountain will be closed for rehab in May (it closes after this weekend) so that specific ride won't be an option but overall, I'm not sure many attractions would have the room to accommodate a suitcase - even if they did let you bring it in.

Perhaps another DVC member might know about possible storage options. That I can't comment on.

Either way, good luck!

We were getting a taxi from the port over to the parks, and then another one from the parks to the hotel. At least, that's what I figured

I was being a bit facetious about the title... it sounded better than "Luggage Question" :lookaroun

If you're not renting a car, how do you plan on getting to WDW?

Perhaps if you took a Town Car service, they might be willing to let you leave your stuff in the vehicle?

I think Bell services usually ask if you're staying at the resort when you try to leave bags with them, but I imagine if you explained [and tipped] they might accommodate you.

If your stuff won't fit in the lockers, Guest Relations might be willing to store it while you're in the park.

Depending on the timings, the airline might let you check in and take your bags early and you could go to WDW and back after checking in?

Sadly, I'm not sure how you could confirm that any of the above would be viable before you go.

How much would Town Car service run?

As for checking in early at the airport, we tried checking in more than 4 hours out once, and they strongly advised we not do that. We did it anyways, and they lost our luggage. It's just too far out in advance for them to handle, I think. Lesson learned!

That's gonna be one expensive cab ride!

Or maybe take the transfers from the pier to the airport and a taxi from the airport to WDW... I haven't booked anything yet because I wanted to know if it might be possible first.

Yeah, why rule out the rental car? Seems like it would likely be significantly cheaper than those cab rides and it solves your luggage problem in the process.

The problem with this, is that they don't rent cars at the pier... And I'm not renting a car just so we can park it at the dock while we're on a cruise.

If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. I won't be crushed... it's just those APs are addicitve! :lookaroun

I would definitely look into renting a car. Whenever we disembark in Port Canaveral, we try to get a late flight and spend the day at Downtown Disney.

The car rental companies run free shuttles back and forth to the port all day. Just catch a shuttle to the car rental place, and then drop off your rental at the airport later that day.

We usually pay between $40 and $60 for this one way rental. It's definitely going to cost less than a town car or taxi. :)

Hmm - I am surprised they dont have a car rental at the cape pier. I have been on cruises out of miami and lauderdale and they always had rental cars at the pier. Perhaps someone like Enterprise would be willing to meet you there with a car? Those cab rides are going to be $$$$ so even if you paid a little premium to get the car delivered, I bet you still might come out ahead.

We posted at the same time.:) There aren't car rental places at the terminal, but they do run shuttles back and forth. The car rental places are very close, we're talking about a 10 minute shuttle ride, tops.

Defintely go with car rental. Call one of the car rental places in the Canaveral area, and see if they'll meet the ship with your rental car. Enterprise will do that if they're in the area, for example. If that fails, catch a cab to a car rental place or use the Disney transfers to the airport and rent or to WDW and rent from there. The expense of the taxi ride combined with the problem of luggage storage makes the car rental by far the best way to go.

We just had a similar issue in December when we went on our cruise. There were 5 of us, so a rental car was definitely cheaper than the Disney transfers. Budget has a location in Cocoa Beach that offers a free shuttle from the pier to their location appx 5-10 min away. If I remember correctly, a one way rental for 1 day cost us appx 50.00 and we were able to drop it right at the airport. It might be a bit more expensive in May because it's a busier season, but still shouldn't be bad.

Rolling bags, coolers on wheels, and any other wheeled 'baggage' are not allowed in the parks... it's tripping hazard... and actually.. it realy IS a tripping hazard..

Don't bother trying to get guest relations to hold your bags for you.. With wheeled luggage you won't get past the bag check area.

This option will cheaper than a taxi and it solves your luggage problem all at the same time. Now you can go to MK and play all day, it's the best of both worlds!

Although renting a car sounds like the best idea if you can work it out, Guest Relations is another option. At least, it was when I was working there (thru 2002). We would frequently store luggage/rolling coolers/wagons (anything you would pull behind you, rather than push in front like a stroller) in our office - they will let you through the turnstiles, but only far enough to check them with us. Even if you didn't bother to stop on your way in, security or management that sees you in other parts of the park will turn you around and send you back to GR. Oh, and it would have to be something that is too big to fit in a locker (so we don't have everyone trying to store their stuff for free :animwink:)
