Do Teachers get Discounts?

So we are planning our trip for Summer 2016 and I been researching if Educators get discount at the park or resorts? I read mix things on it, so curious if anyone ever used this type of discount at WDW? My mother a teacher and I'm student/teacher as well.

What we are looking into is the Wilderness Lodge and 10 days at the hopper park pass.

If everyone gets discounts then no one gets discounts. The price goes up to offset the faux discount.

Plus, where does it end? Who decides who is "worthy" of this discount. Everybody thinks they deserve a discount. Some say "hey, I don't make that much money I should get a deal." I have even seen people post on the boards saying that they have lots of kids so they should get a deal because they need to book and extra room. How about me? We work our butt off and have never had any kind of assistance from anyone either public or private. We are hard working, law abiding citizens who are an asset to society, don't we deserve a deal?

I was thinking the same thing. My parents had 5 kids(in the 60/70's and we never went to Disneyland or Disneyworld because, well 5 kids. Eventually, someone would get bothered enough that they would find an atorney and sue for imagined discrimination(don't laugh, there are attorneys who will file for any reason and judges who will allow it) and then all discounts go away. Heck, I was in Bed, Bath and Beyond last week and had some guy arguing with the cashier about the man in front of him getting a discount(not sure what his designation was) and if he got one then why can't she give the same discount to him? It happens.

I am surprised places still have senior discounts. Not that I am complaining but heck all the seniors I know have plenty of money. Its the people just starting out with small kids that are struggling.

Teachers cannot take off during the school year to take a personal vacation. Their only option to visit Disney - or any other vacation destination - is during the peak periods when prices are more expensive. The discounts offered are a nice gesture in recognition of that.
Teachers get more days off than any other occupation I can think of.

If you want a discount stay at the Swan or Dolphin. The rooms are very spacious.

Well someone did not tell the teachers in my kid's school that. There are plenty of teachers who take off during the year and yes they do go to WDW. We talk about it all the time. My husbands company has been scheduling projects around the summer "forcing" them to take a vacation during the summer, I guess they think they are doing them a favor. My hubby has not gone to WDW with us in 3 years because of his work schedule.

LOL! Um, no. My husband is 61 and I am 46, we have two sons(26 and 17) and he is still working and will be for several more years and we struggle. We have to live in CA due to the job and the Bay Area no less, making cost of living exorbitant. Many seniors that I know(my aunt and uncle among others) are subsisting on Social Security and a meager military pension and the cost of healthcare, housing(they bought their house in 1975, things break a lot now), transportation etc end up costing them more and more. Plus, many people took serious hits to retirement funds when the market tanked. And it was not a senior discount as the man was maybe in his 30's. Possibly a 20% off coupon that BB&B sends out if you are on their mailing list.

I prefer my theme parks stay out of the social engineering field and stick to running theme parks. They charge what they need to charge to stay in business (which includes a healthy profit margin).
I understand that, but we're at the point where Disney's pricing out people, that, 10-20 years ago, would have been their best customers. I dislike seeing the market skewed like that.

Is it Disney's obligation to maintain pricing (or make their product available) to anyone at any socioeconomic level? If so then a trip to Disney becomes a right. I don't recall that particular one noted in the Bill of Rights.

I think I was absent the day that was discussed. And my parents too because I did not get to Dland until I was 18 and out of the house and this May will be the first trip ever to WDW(and I am 46 now). LOL

It's not a right, but, culturally, a trip to Disney has become a rite of passage. It would be a shame to lose that.

I don't agree with that either. It's not a rite of passage and many people(both kids and adults) never go even if they can afford it because it is not something they are into. Some rites of passage for them would be racing motorcycles(not cheap), going to college to further their education and help the family ranching business(not cheap), getting a pilot's license(not cheap). You put your money where your priorities are. If they want a vacation to WDW(or any place for that matter), you save and save and then you go. You might not go at 10, 15, 26, etc but if you want to get there, you can get there. My youngest son loves MotoGP races(a 4 days race weekend is comparable to a 4-5d WDW trip depending on location, flight, hotel, food etc) and classic rock concerts(3-4 a year) so that is what he prefers to save his money for but he also works and saves towards Disneyland even though he only goes 1x every couple of years because that is when we can afford it. Cultural rites of passage vary from group to group.
