Do people still use real cameras?

99% of the people who visit DL are not there to take the best quality photos they possibly can--they just want to share their experience online with the their friends and family--and so they use their phones. The ones who bring cameras specifically have "take great shots" as part of their agenda.

Yes. These days, if you have a camera and know how to use it, you are by default a Photography Master.

More often however i tend to use my tablet for quick snapshots of various things of interest.

One of those huh? I mean it's great to have a large screen but it just seems unwieldy to hold a large tablet up for photos.

How come, then, it seems like more people would use phones?

It's small....not one of the larger models.
IPad Mini.
It's used for mostly outdoor shots, as I don't want to be 'that jerk' that holds up a glowing screen during fireworks or have it going the entire time I am on a dark ride.
I use it pretty discreetly.
