Do parents really put their older kids in diapers for a trip to Disney world?

Last year my son was just three and almost done with potty training. He was excited to see the little potties, and especially the small sink in the bath room. "Daddy, that sink is just the right size."

That said, a pull up may have been wise as I felt the searing shock of an eight year old coming out of the Mission Space play area complaining to his mom about the little kid that had just peed his pants in the play structure. That was my kid. Long day:dazzle:.

This year it is no backup. I am sure we can buy some undies if needed after a long wait for Pooh. The ride.....

And to think I worried about using pull ups for my 3.25 year old son! My god, what are these people on?

Bring some extra undies, shorts, plastic bags and laundry soap. It worked for us. We only had a rough go the second day we were there after a full day at MK the day before.

They didn't used to sell undies in the theme park gift shops back in the day (I'm recalling 1989ish). I had an accident (I was 3) and much to my mother's dismay, there were no undies to be found in any gift shop.

I might consider putting an older child into a 'goodnight' at bedtime if they had a history of accidents from time to time....honestly WDW is a long day and I would hate to make it any longer by having to make a call to housekeeping in the middle of the night because the child was sleeping that deeply. I would never ever put an older child in a diaper/pull up in order to make better time in the lines....my 4 year old would never want to ever wear a diaper again...I would probably have trouble putting him into a overnight diaper while he was still awake......good thing he's been dry overnight for 18 months now.

We must always look for solutions to our problems - 3 year old commando with some Mickey shorts would work too.

It's the job of the parents to make the kids use the restroom even if they "don't feel it". I know we all become excited while visiting WDW, and sometimes the children don't want to take a break, but better to take 5 minutes and go rather than have them look at you and say "But I can't hold it!" Our son has visited WDW a dozen times since he was 2 and he's never had an accident. We make certain we take regular restroom breaks.

To me the person or persons running those sites, are nothing more than lazy selfish parents who are putting their thoughts before that of their children. All you have to do is plan accordingly, you pass a bathroom everybody go potty, before getting in that long line. If the child needs to go again, big deal not everyone has to go, step out and take them. I for one am not gonna complain when you come back to your party. I would rather see that childs face with a big smile, enjoying themselves.Seeing that child upset, because mom and dad are forcing him or her to wet their pants, would ruin my day, not to mention p!$$ me off.

Some people will put kids even older than that in a stroller.

But you'll get flamed by the stroller-wielding masses if you say it's ridiculous. :brick:

It must be very embarrassing for the kids though
It's the same as with the diaper thing, I can't believe parents are doing this to their children.

Is it true that people put 8 y/o in a stroller @ Disney
Then I'm afraid that it is thrue that some parents put their children in diapers as well.

This must be so embarrassing for the poor kids

It's so true it's scary.

There is actually a thread over at the DIS boards right now with parents comparing tips for squeezing their 5 and 6 year olds into strollers.

After you read each post they all have the same basic theme : "we have a hard time finding strollers big enough...our kid is super tall, you know."

They don't seem to get the fact that if your kid is to big to find a stroller for, they just may, possibly, by a remote chance, be TOO BIG FOR A STROLLER lol.

The scariest part? One of them said, "I just don't know what we're going to do next year!" Next year? My goodness...

I would be so bold as to suggest that any kid riding in a stroller cannot ride a 40" tall ride. Except my kids, of course. ;)

My wife and I don't just put our kids in diapers, we wear them, too. Just in case we have to go when we're in line. We wear full catcher's gear, too. Just in case someone elbows or kicks one of us. Also, we carry pillows with us everywhere. You know, just in case we need a nap while we're in line. Oh, and we wear barf bags around our neck ... just in case we need to heave or drool excessively.

We're prepared for anything! :D

Ok, I passed this thread several times before I stopped to read it but I just gotta say something about this.
I'd think that if you're doing this you're probably bordering on psychological child abuse.
And if you're rushing around the parks so much that you don't have time to wait in line for your child to have a potty break regardless of his/her age, then you're not on vacation, you're on a mission from Hades.
Lighten up, slow down, plan ahead a bit and allow time for breaks before it's too late. And if you lose a few minutes and miss a ride or two, so what? You know you're coming back again, ride it then.
Geeesh, it takes all kinds to make a world. :brick:

It's ridiculous to put a 7-year-old in diapers just so it doesn't upset your WDW vacation.

The trick is to not give them anything to eat or drink a few days prior to the trip. Then you don't have to worry about accidents. :)

Not old, just vintage.
If I hadn't actually seen what the OP is questioning in action I never would have believed it.

This August I was in line for Voyage of the Little Mermaid. In line behind us there was a very obnoxious family with 4 kids and various other relatives. The whole time in line they were shoving people around. One of the older kids, about 5 I would say started doing the p e e-p e e dance and complaining he had to go. The mother just ignored him for a while. Once he started crying she just whipped out a diaper that probably was intended for one of his younger siblings. She made him drop his pants so she could put it on him....meanwhile everyone in line is just sort of staring at her in disbelief. The poor kid just started crying even more and looked totally mortified. I guess he used the diaper out of pure despiration because then he started throwing a tantrum about wanting to get it off of him. She refused to take it off of him until the show was over. By this time the line was moving into the theatre. The poor kid had to sit thru the 20min show in a wet diaper he was probably 3 years too old to be in.

Borderline child abuse if you ask me.

Yeah, but what if the kid agrees to it. And the parents would be so wise to diaper the kid befor going into the park? I think no-one would ever notice.

Although both my sons are used to wearing diapers at night (due to bed wetting problems) I'm not thinking of putting them back in diapers at day time just to be a lazy parent.

My youngest son really asked for a goodnite underpant while traveling last summer holiday because he was afraid of peeing his pant while asleep during a long ride.

I know this is an old thread, but Jedimaster's comments on the AK Boat Meal thread brought this to my attention. This is hilarious.

I say:
Go no diapers. If the kid wets himself/herself so what... there are plenty of water rides/play fountains. If you're lucky the kid will go to the bathroom in line for Splash Mountain right before you load onto the log.

No harm. No foul.
