Do ALL "moderate" resort rooms.....

.....have their room doors open directly to the outside as opposed to the inside hallway of the building they're located in? One of the drawbacks we found to staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort a week or two ago (our first time at a resort in the 'moderate' range) was that we were outside when we walked into our room. I was just wondering if this is just part of what drops these resorts down a notch. I didn't think I'd care about it, but after hearing the people walking by, buses that stopped outside the building, and so forth.....it did get rather annoying.

We stayed in Aruba this time as well, building 53. I felt it was a ridiculously long walk just to get to OPR. We didn't even feel the need to buy refillable mugs. If we had wanted coffee or hot cocoa, by the time we got 3/4 back to our room from filling the mugs, they'd have been cold. THAT is a telling sign that there was too long a walk between the Aruba buildings and OPR. But, I wanted to see for myself what the moderate resorts were like, and at the time it was all we could get when we booked our stay. I can't see myself doing anything but a deluxe resort from now on.

I've stayed at WL twice, Poly twice, have no desire at all to stay at GF, and so I need to plan for a stay in a tower room at the Contemporary.

Back in our Caribbean Beach days, we always requested and got our water view room in Aruba 52. We never felt the walk was long. Funny though how two different families can have a differing opinion on what really constitutes a long walk. I'm sorry you ddin't like CBR b/c it holds many great memories.

We find that rooms in the far corners of Yacht/Beach/BoardWalk can be a farther walk than a room at Caribbean Beach. But maybe b/c they have indoor corridors you don't hear as many complaining as you do at Moderate Resorts.

Personally, I have no problem with the sounds of people walking by outside my room, or the sounds of the busses, etc. Now if people are constantly running by screaming and acting like hooligans, it could conceivably irritate me a little. But just the basic sounds of families walking by with their luggage rolling behind them and chit chatting, that doesn't bother me at all. It just reminds me that I'm on vacation and that this is one of the sounds of vacation. :D Of course, I'm used to sounds while I'm sleeping anyway. I find it easier to go to sleep if I have the sound of a TV on in the room, or the sound of a ceiling fan, etc.

As far as indoor entrances vs outdoor entrances, I guess I could go either way. On the one hand, like others have said, I do enjoy walking out to the sights, sounds and smells of the Florida outdoors. On the other hand, as a child, I really enjoyed staying in hotels, going up the elevator and down the hallway to our room, so having an indoor entrance in a traditional hotel hallway would be a welcome thing as well. That, too, is a memory that I associate with hotels.

Agreed - we've been on a few trips with multiple families, and its amazing to hear, for the same resort experience, who thinks the walk is long and who doesn't, and who thinks the buses are terrible and who doesn't....

Actually I've stayed at the Boardwalk once myself, and considering where my room was and how one had to go down onto the Boardwalk itself and all the way down to the Bakery just to refill the mug........that was almost, but not quite as long a hike as it was from Aruba 53 to OPR. It was just too much, particularly with having to walk outside. If it had been raining, it wouldn't have been possible to go out at all until it subsided.

I love walking out of our door in the morning to the sun, the humidity, the sounds, and the smells. While i would love to stay at poly, and almost did this trip, the couple thousand dollar difference doesn't seem worth it.

Having stayed at the Poly twice before and then trying the CBR a few weeks ago.....the money difference is definitely worth it, particularly if you prefer to be close to the Magic Kingdom and like the thought of waking up each day and looking out to enjoy the view of the Seven Seas Lagoon/Bay Lake area.

We've stayed at the Poly many times. My DH offered it to me this past September for our 25th wedding anniversary as a special treat. I turned him down and stuck with our CSR because it is "home" and we are comfortable there and love the resort. The Poly is beautiful--don't get me wrong--and I have wonderful memories of our stay there. But it is not worth the extra cost in my honest opinion when the CSR offers just as much in the way of extras (and has a hot tub which the Poly does not). The only thing it doesn't have is the monorail or a view of the castle. Well, the monorail is overrated in my opinion (we spent more time on it last year than we did driving to and from the parks in our rental car), and although the view of the MK is stunning, it is not something I need after one or two times. I like being away from the 24/7 of Disney afater being at the parks all day.

I hated all the noise that there was from the outside that we could hear while we were sleeping. I hated the distance we were located from Old Port Royale (the walk was ridiculous). I hated the insanely small bathroom, and the insanely small beds. Basically CBR is nothing but an externally prettied-up Motel 6.

The value resorts maybe.....
Moderates are a step up.

I've stayed at the Poly twice and the Wilderness Lodge twice and NEVER had those kinds of issues there at all.
Teeny tiny room.
CBR's rooms are 340 square feet. WL's rooms are 344 square feet. It seems as though your negativity towards CBR has colored your memory ... those rooms are the same size, yet you call it teeny tiny at CBR and acceptable at WL.

I've stayed at CBR twice. And I just returned from the Poly where I paid for a Theme Park view room. Obviously, I prefer the Poly and especially that kind of room. But for about one-third of the price of that TPV room, I still love CBR.

And a word about walking distances ...
Using my favorite running website, I can measure exact distances. From my room in the Tahiti longhouse at Poly to the entrance of Capt. Cooks (right where the beverage fountain is) is 0.35 miles. The distance from the farthest corner of Aruba 53 to the entrance of OPR (crossing the bridge, not walking around past Barbados) is 0.32 miles.

IT IS A SHORTER WALK FROM ARUBA 53 TO OPR THAN IT IS FROM TAHITI TO CAPT. COOK'S!!! You can clock it yourself if you don't believe me ... go to http://www.usatf.org/routes/map/ and then follow the directions to try it for youself if you don't believe me.

So again, we can see that the loooong walk you complained about at CBR is slightly SHORTER than the walk I had from my perfect room in Tahiti to Capt. Cook's. Again, we can see that your negative feelings towards CBR have unjustly colored your memories.

Same room size as WL. Same walking distance as from Tahiti. Two of your negative arguments against CBR are gone ... POOF!!! ... due to actual facts rather than rash opinions.

That would definitely be my advice to you.

I understand airing grievances and all the other posters are trying to tell you is that they do not have the same problems. If you think it's that similar to a Motel 6, try finding hot cocoa at the Motel 6. It's a much longer walk to WalMart than to the food court. Personally, I much prefer moderates and values. They are very conducive to what I go to do: parks. I hope you very well enjoy your next trip to the World and hopefully not have such a miserable time in your room as you seemed to have had.

claiming the values and mods are the same negates any validity to your point -- they're not. Much larger rooms, different amenities, double sinks, more storage, etc...

Also.. room wise, CBR - CSR - POR - POFQ = all the same. Actually, I read that CBR's rooms are slightly larger (being the original mod), but it's negligible. Same size beds, same layout, same bathrooms, etc. Sure, you may like the location you get at one resort more than another, but that has little to do with the resort... there are good and bad spots at all of them.

Actually, CBR has been upgraded since the new year... the room we were in in January (Jamaica 41) was wonderful.. smelled brand new. New bedding, new TV, new armoires, etc... we loved the double sink countertop/storage unit in the bathroom... FAR more space than the ledge above the counterless sinks at POR. During our stay, we watched buildings all around us getting brand new furnishings put in.

Never a problem with the walk. Got coffee and/or hot chocolate every morning and most evenings, and we strolled through the island in the middle of the pond back from OPR.. still piping hot back in the room. We loved CBR. Didn't look like any motel 6 I've ever seen...

I suggest you go stay at a Motel 6 to refresh your memory of exactly what you get there vs. what you had at CBR. They are not basically the same.

My thoughts as well.

Certainly a Moderate is not a Deluxe. Just as certain, it is not a Motel 6.

As someone that had the "opportunity" to stay in a Motel 6 last year due to some odd circumstances, I can say that I would sleep on the ground outside of a Disney Value before I would like to relive the Motel 6 experience.

Someone mentioned OKW, well Saratoga Springs has exterior doors as well, but they are both DVC resorts, and not really Deluxe. Although I know Disney tries to sell them as such on the website. (Deluxe Villa)
