Do ALL "moderate" resort rooms.....

.....have their room doors open directly to the outside as opposed to the inside hallway of the building they're located in? One of the drawbacks we found to staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort a week or two ago (our first time at a resort in the 'moderate' range) was that we were outside when we walked into our room. I was just wondering if this is just part of what drops these resorts down a notch. I didn't think I'd care about it, but after hearing the people walking by, buses that stopped outside the building, and so forth.....it did get rather annoying.

Yes, they are all outside entrance. We, truthfully, prefer it over the indoor corridors. First, I am in Florida, I want to walk outside an enjoy the spectacular weather and see the trees and flowers and not walk down a dark corridor. Also, we've stayed at the CSR seven times, and we have NEVER had a noise issue with people walking by, buses or anything else. We had issues at the Contemporary and the Poly with kids running up and down the halls and banging on doors. It comes down to a matter of personal preference like everything else I guess.

I hated all the noise that there was from the outside that we could hear while we were sleeping. I hated the distance we were located from Old Port Royale (the walk was ridiculous). I hated the insanely small bathroom, and the insanely small beds. Basically CBR is nothing but an externally prettied-up Motel 6.

I've never stayed at the CBR. We stay at the CSR (Coronado--which has queen beds by the way)). As I said, we had more issues at the Poly and CR with noise than we ever had at CSR. As for the walking, I know that CBR is a very large resort as is the CSR. But you can have a long walk at the deluxes as well from point a to point b. My friend stayed at the AKL last May (he signed up late for a conference and there were no rooms left at the CSR where the conference was being held). He was in the LAST room at the AKL and said it took him forever to walk to the lobby or the food or the pool. When he came to CSR for the conference and then walked to the furthest section, the Ranchos from the Convention Center at the front of the resort, he said it was a shorter walk than his walk at the AKL.

Like I said, it's all a matter of personal preference. The walking doesn't bother us--we are walkers--and we enjoy walking around our resort every night when we get back from the parks.

But I will admit to you, I don't care for the CBR and that is why we've never stayed--don't care for the theme (same as I don't care for the theme at the WL and other resorts).

You're still going to have those issues even with indoor corridors. If you have a wall that faces the buses with a window you're going to hear the noise as much as you would through an outdoor entrance, you're still going to hear families running up and down the hallways.

Yea CBR is in my opinion the worst moderate because of the distance. I don't mind the outside doors as long as i'm not right by the pool where sleeping in can be a huge problem.

Actually a Deluxe resort with outside entrances is Old Key West. I don't mind the outside entrance but its nice to have the inside for the rainier months.

I've stayed at the Poly twice and the Wilderness Lodge twice and NEVER had those kinds of issues there at all.

I agree with something else someone said. I prefer the outside entrances unless the inside entrance also has a balcony. I like to be able to step outside some times and enjoy the nice days.

I don't like outside rooms in some of the offsite resorts that don't have security as they can be a bit unsafe. I don't have that fear of someone knocking in my door and taking my stuff while at the Disney resorts though.

We used to stay @ POFQ, 3rd floor facing the Sassagula River, and it was PERFECTLY quite and serene. It's a quaint little resort, even from bldg 6 the walk to anywhere was no more than 5 minutes. I don't think it has that "motor lodge" feel at all. We stay @ the Epcot resorts now though, which IMO are just as spread out. Once you go deluxe, it's so hard to go back:D.

I suggest you go stay at a Motel 6 to refresh your memory of exactly what you get there vs. what you had at CBR. They are not basically the same.

Yes, they are basically the same. Teeny tiny room. Tiny, uncomfortable beds with too-thin blankets. Very small sink area with not even a closed closet, the open rack is right next to the sink. Insanely small bathroom with poor showerheads. Small, out-dated CRT television. AC pumping out that "old hotel" smell into the room.

I would suggest then that you never stay at a Disney value resort - the rooms are even smaller - 260 sq ft vs 314-340 sq ft for a Moderate resort.

The past few trips, I've stayed at All-Stars and Coronado, and honestly, the rooms themselves are basically the same as a motel you might find anywhere else. What you do get at the All-Stars is a great family atmosphere that sets the tone for a Disney Vacation, and what you get at Coronado and other Moderates is a spectacular well-done theme, on-site world class restaurants (except the Pepper Market...ew) and just a great atmosphere that continues the magic outside the parks, plus all the perks of staying on-site.

Yes there's the outdoor entrances, but that's not something I mind, I like strolling around the resorts, (and I do like Coronado a lot) so it's more like an added bonus, especially with all the beautifully landscaped courtyard areas.

Anyway that's just my take.

I was going to say this also..OKW has the outside doors, and for that reason it's our favorite DVC resort. I hate having to walk for miles inside endless corridors to get to our room. I love being able to park right outside and walk indoors with little fuss.

The only time I've ever really missed having a door open to a corridor was when we stayed during a hurricane... I know those doors are sturdy, but they still rattled in their hinges anyways. :dazzle:

I've stayed in tons of hotels over the years for racing and I'll always take doors to outside over doors inside. If the weather is nice. its so nice to walk around or hang out right outside your room and relax instead of being stuck inside.

The main reason I guess I hate doors inside is those same people who may be walking 10ft or more away from your room are now walking 2 ft from your door and talking in a hallway that echos. The door slamming echo all night long. The kids knocking on doors all night long. It never stops. haha

Isn't that the truth! We stayed on a second floor Barefoot Bay view at Caribbean Beach in Aruba--a perfectly serene and quiet area. Never a long walk. Now we stay at the Epcot Deluxes and some of the rooms/ food options are still very far away.

Once we stayed Deluxe in 2002, we haven't been back to a Moderate.

We stayed in Aruba this time as well, building 53. I felt it was a ridiculously long walk just to get to OPR. We didn't even feel the need to buy refillable mugs. If we had wanted coffee or hot cocoa, by the time we got 3/4 back to our room from filling the mugs, they'd have been cold. THAT is a telling sign that there was too long a walk between the Aruba buildings and OPR. But, I wanted to see for myself what the moderate resorts were like, and at the time it was all we could get when we booked our stay. I can't see myself doing anything but a deluxe resort from now on.

I've stayed at WL twice, Poly twice, have no desire at all to stay at GF, and so I need to plan for a stay in a tower room at the Contemporary.

Wow - I don't remember the rooms being that small!!

I thought my room was huge! Very spacey compared to the value resorts and we were able to draw the curtains back and watch Illuminations.

Maybe you got the one room in CBR that was made from left over space....
