Once the bus actaully gets going, it's a 35 minute trip to Disney. Then it can take up to ten minutes to get to the three different resorts that your particular bus will go to. There's a very nice DVD that they play during the trip.

I've used DME three times now, each time to POFQ, and it has never taken more than 60 minutes -- usually about 40 minutes -- the one hour trip involved a 20 minute wait at the airport.

Note that you can experience different wait times at MCO for your bus, ranging from walk-on to 30 minutes, depending on the time you arrive and when the last bus for your resort left.

Every time we've used DME, it only took about 30-40 minutes at the most.

This year, however, we stayed at POR. And the DME bus stopped at 3 other resorts besides ours. It went from MCO, to SSR, to OKW, to POFQ, then to POR where we were staying. That bus ride was a little less than an hour. All four resorts were so close to one another, so it didn't feel long at all.

I really loved POR!! I miss our rooms so much, they were so nice.

Sorry I couldn't help myself..

Where do your bags go? Does the airport get them straight to your room or do you have to take them on the bus? If they take them to the room, how long does that usually take to get there? I will be there Saturday and I'm kinda worried because this is my first time to fly to Disney instead of fly and I just don't know how it works.

Did you get yellow tags for your luggage? If so, those go on your bags before you check them when departing from home. Disney picks them up and delivers them to your room... no need to go to luggage claim and drag them to the bus. The "official" answer as to when do your bags arrive in your room is 3 hours after you arrive at your resort, or 4 hours after your plane lands. Ours took a little longer (about 5 hours after our plane landed) last trip, so pack your carry on accordingly.

Southwest Airlines sent me something in the mail yesterday, but I haven't opened it yet. Is that what it could be, or do the yellow tags come grom Disney? I might need to go check on that!!:hammer:

The tags come from Disney. It would have come in a separate envelope with a return address of Disney's Magical Express. Did you book your trip directly through Disney or did you use a travel agent? You might need to call Magical Express and make sure you have a reservation, especially if you never got your documents. But if you used an agent, they need to call for you.

Disney's Magical Express is free, but you must make a reservation for it.

ABout 4-6 weeks before your trip, you will receive a mailing with a DME return address. In there will be a DME information packet (which will include bus vouchers) and special DME luggage tags. These tags are pre-printed with a lot of information, and are made of sticky yellow paper (they are stickers on the back). Before you leave home, you place on tag on each piece of checked luggage.

You go to your airport and check your luggage with your airline as you would any other time. No one at your home airport knows anything about DME, and they don't need to.

After an airplane lands at Orlando International Airport (MCO), the luggage is unloaded and eventually makes its way to baggage claim carousels. However, during that route between airplane and baggage claim, pieces of luggage tagged with those bright yellow DME tags are pulled from the regular luggage stream. They are gathered together and taken to Disney's luggage sorting facility, which is on the grounds of the airport. Those bags never make it to baggage claim. [And by the way, this is for everyne on every airline. Some people get confused and think this applies only to certain airlines, but that is incorrect -- all airlines, PERIOD.]

Luggage is sorted by resort and then placed into cages. Those cages are then loaded onto delivery trucks, and the trucks then drop off the cages at the resorts. Bell Services cast members then remove the luggage from the cages and deliver the bags to the inside of the proper resort room. This happens whether or not the guest is inside the room; the Bell Services CM receives a tip from Disney, so even if you are in your room there is no need to tip the CM, as he/she has already been tipped once.

So if you put your DME tags on your bags, then you simply walk straight from the plane to the Disney Welcome Center ... you totally skip baggage claim. One person from your party checks in at the DME counter, and you are shown which bus queue to get in (the bus queues are inside the airport, not outside). When it is time, you are then shown to your bus. You may take your carry-ons with you into the bus, or you may have the driver stow them under the bus for you. If it is too large to fit under your seat or on the overhead shelf, then you will need to have it stowed under the bus.

When you arrive at your resort, the driver will unload anything you had stowed under the bus. A tip is customary for such service.

The average time from airplane landing to resort drop-off is 70 minutes. This is comparable with the timing for car services or rental cars or taxis. With DME, you save time by not having to wait around baggage claim.
