DME one way trip possible?

I've always wanted to go to Universal for the Horror Nights event. I'm going to be in Orlando for a week starting on Saturday, the 24th. That night, Universal stays open until 2 AM. Since I'm scheduled to get in at 6:00 PM, I'm considering renting a car for 1-2 days. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with taking DME one way and if it was possible. I would rent the car from the airport and drop it off at the Swan/Dolphin or the Disney Car Care Center.

If it's not possible, I'll just rent the car midweek and go Wednesday or Thursday, just figured I'd take advantage of the first night to go to a park since Magic Kingdom is closing at 11 PM, so wouldn't be worth it to go to a Disney park that day.

They did not used to let you.

The would not allow you a return spot if not taking the first leg back in '05. We had to have a rider each way. Kind of a bummer.

I do this exact thing quite often.

I somtimes have business in Tampa, I fly into Orlando, rent a car and drive to Tampa and do what I need to do. Then I drive to WDW, return the car at the Swan, stay a few days, and take the DME back to MCO.

Never had a single problem

My Step-Dad's family flew in for a week, my Mom and him picked them up from the airport and spent a few days with them then my parents came home, so his family took DME back to the airport at the end of their trip. Worked out great.

Unfortunately, whomever you talked to back then gave you wrong information. I used DME the 4th day it was in existence ... been there, done that.

I'll bet a case of Mickey Bars that you were told that information by someone on the phone at 407-W-DISNEY or at a direct-dialed resort number. They are infamous for giving totally wrong info, especially about Disney's Magical Express.

If anyone wants 100% totally accurate DME info and they don't want to trust the experts here in WDWMagic, then your only hope is to call DME directly at 866-599-0951. That line is answered ONLY by actual Disney's Magical Express cast members. Please do yourself a favor, and DO NOT trust any Disney CM's info about DME unless that CM is a DME CM.

Another example of the existence of being able to book DME in only one direction: When you add DME onto your reservation while booking through the WDW website, there are separate check-boxes for Arrival and Departure to indicate which you intend to use.
