Distance from Wilderness Lodge to Fort Wilderness

We are staying at Wilderness Lodge and have reservations for Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Review for 7:15. How long does it take to get from Wilderness Lodge from Fort Wilderness? I read where we should be there around 30 minutes before show starts. Is that really necessary?

Not sure how long it takes to get there. On satellite images it seems there is a path between the two, looks like it might be a 30-40min walk.

Disney always ask you to get to your shows and reservations 30mins before and I suggest that you at least try and get there 30mins before. I'm sure that If you are only 10mins early they won't mind though.

Depending on how long you have to wait for a boat it only takes about 5-10 minutes from the dock of WL to the dock of FW.

It's then another 5 min. maximum walk to Pioneer Hall.

I think they ask you to be early in case there is a problem with your reservation. Otherwise, your table assignment is made when you reserve so checking in early doesn't change your place on the floor. ]

We have arrived 5 min. before showtime and been fine...we have also gotten there 45 min. early and enjoyed the atmosphere of FW while waiting on the porch in a rocking chair!

Its just a short boat ride from Wilderness Lodge to Fort Wilderness. Maybe 5-10 min depending. There is a path but I've never walked it so I can't tell you how long a walk it would be.

The walk is pleasant and peaceful, along a reasonably well-marked path. The path heads from around the place at the WL where you would rent boats or bikes (northeast of the pool, if I get my directions right). The walk from there to the area of Pioneer Hall where HDD is held took my wife and I about 20 minutes, but we were stopping along the way to look at nature (deer, birds, possums) and to get our 3 year-old back on the trail, so you could probably do the walk in 15 minutes easily. I found the walk to be a great break from things, as the noise and energy of WL drop away quickly, and you have a few very peaceful minutes (except when the buses trundle by) of being in the middle of the woods before you start to see signs of FW.

The walk will take about 15 minutes. We walked over back in 2000 to see the horses. It may be worth it to walk there and take the boat back.

We plan to eat at Artist Point one of our nights there and then, possibly, go do a carraige ride (it depends on if my wife wants to do the carraige ride there or at our resort, POR), and watch the electrical water pageant.

In order to do the latter two activities, what would be the best time to schedule supper at Artist Point, and if we walk to FW, which way do we go after walking out of the Wilderness lodge building?

The Electrical Water pageant goes by the WL around 9:30 ish. You can watch it from the beach or boat dock and also from inside on the upstairs deck. Its goes past FW about 10 minutes later so eat around 8 or 8:15 to give yourself enough time that you don't have to rush thru dinner. Then you just have to walk out the big doors off the lobby and head to the back, past the pool.

I believe the path to FW is to the right from the rear if the WL (or left from the front), but again, walking thru the woods in the dark is not fun in my book. :lookaroun

I agree with others.....I would not walk it at night. It is through the woods, and you feel pretty isolated....everytime we have walked it or rented a bike(during the day) we have seen very few other people on the path. I am not even sure if the path is lit (anyone else know if there are lights? ) It is a nice, peaceful walk during the day, though. But it is faster to take the boat imo (but we have small kids which makes the walk take a really long time!).

You've already gotten your answer so you don't need me to tell you the same thing all over again. All I can say is I wish I were you...we just did all of this back in January and we had the greatest time. We stayed at the WL and went to the show. I know you will have a great time too... Picture this; I was picked to play the fairy during the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Review. I'm 6'4" tall and weigh over 300 lbs. My DW and kids are still laughing... What a blast! And the WL is a great place to stay. My future son-in law was doing his internship at AP while we were there. That made the trip extra special since my DD and he got engaged on the beach at the Lodge while we were there... Have a great time!!!

Others have cautioned against the path at night. I did it around dusk, and I can confirm that you feel isolated (which I liked...chance to slow down and breath easy). I don't recall much lighting, but we still had some sunlight left, so I wasn't looking real hard. Following the path was easy.

I've done the EWP, Magic Kingdom fireworks from the FW dock before, following either dinner at WL or the campfire at FW. If I recall, EWP hits around 9:45, followed by the fireworks at 10, presuming the fireworks are indeed going off at 10. Sometimes the MK fireworks go at other times, so make sure to check.
