Fascinating recent story on how some alligators survived the brutal weather last week in a frozen NC swamp.

They basically kept their noses poked out through the frozen surface, and remained perfectly still to conserve energy until the temperature warmed back up to what they could tolerate. Pretty ingenious really. Nature never ceases to amaze me.

Though the unfairness and hypocrisy behind it all, is that when alligators use this survival technique, they are hailed as brilliant and resourceful.... yet when I tried the exact same thing... I was labeled as insane and got hypothermia.
