Fascinating recent story on how some alligators survived the brutal weather last week in a frozen NC swamp.

They basically kept their noses poked out through the frozen surface, and remained perfectly still to conserve energy until the temperature warmed back up to what they could tolerate. Pretty ingenious really. Nature never ceases to amaze me.

Though the unfairness and hypocrisy behind it all, is that when alligators use this survival technique, they are hailed as brilliant and resourceful.... yet when I tried the exact same thing... I was labeled as insane and got hypothermia.

And that's the reason gators have and will be around longer than humans

p.s. For any of you who ever end up getting seated next to me on any outdoor ride or attraction....apologies in advance.
You shouldn't be apologizing to them. They should be thankful they ended up next to you, because they'll be better prepared for falling iguana/alligators tragedies.
