Disneyworld and claustrophobia

I realized I was claustrophobic on RRC! Got stuck on the ride and all I could think was what if we were upside down? Trapped! And then they gave us a free ride for our troubles. That was my last ride!

wait you got stuck literrally when the ride was upside down? if so, i would be done with roller coasters that go upside down - i love them but the thought of being upside down stuck hurts my stomach

Thank The Lord no we weren't upside down! We were at the end and we sat there for what felt like an eternity!

I do not have it but I can not take mission space. the barf bags freak me out, and the consistent warnings make me uneasy. this is the absolute worst ride on disney property
I think it's a great ride, but definitely the scariest on Disney property. I rode it last weekend, right after I ate nachos in the Mexico pavilion (don't ask why).
Needless to say I was freaking out.

This has become an issue for me in the last two years. Even planes have become difficult.

As for the parks, MS is the worst. I did the mild version. Got through it but not without some acid reflux.

HM stretching room doesn't bother me but that crowd queuing for the doom buggies sometimes does, so I just focus on details like the paintings and the bat stanchions.

On Stitch I won't let the restraint touch my shoulders.

Even Kilimanjaro Safari sometimes makes me sick because of the length of time, bumpiness and having to stay on it.

Same thing with Universe of Energy (which I like). If I have to stay seated on a ride too long I start to feel claustrophobic.

Sucks getting old.

I dont deal so much with claustrophobia so much as just anxiety I think. The small space alone, doesn't bother me....the large crowds do. I feel that way in an open area too, if there are too many people. I dont have a problem with the rides....the line queues get to me sometimes though when it's super close quarters

I too am claustrophobic. If I have a focal point in mind before going on the rides I can pretty much handle them all....EXCEPT Sum of all Thrills. I tried it once....and didn't make it past the pre-ride explanation. The CM very politely started with me and got me all ready to go and said, now "if you need to get off the ride push this button and we will stop the ride and get you off of here" She then lowered the head piece into place. I was fine for about 3 seconds....the CM was getting my daughter situated and I started pushing that button like mad. The CM said "Ok I will be right there, hold on" and I was like..uh there is no holding on you have to set me free RIGHT NOW!!!" thankfully my daughter was old enough to ride alone AND understand my problem.

Same thing happened to me. I don't think I have hit a button harder in my life! So embarressing. But then guess where we went next?!?!?! Mission to Space. Yeah I ran like hell out of that place the moment I saw the tiny thing they wanted me to get into. Sigh.

Haunted Mansion is a bit tough but I have learned to just look straight up during the moving room and hopefully make it to the doorway that opens later to give me an extra inch or two. What also worried me was the elevator to Astro Orbiter. But after getting a hard time from my brother in law who did not understand my anxiety I was convinced to jump in. It wasn't that bad.

Anybody else have problems in some of the attractions due to claustrobia? For example when they squeeze everyone in the elevator with no doors at the haunted mansion or the library in the tower of terror? I love the rides themselves but I may not go on them because of this. Anyone else have this problem??
I feel ya on this. I have a mild enclosed space issue. I totally avoid Mission Space. Like just thinking about it makes my heart race. I don't enjoy the tightness of the RNRC shoulder restraints but I go on anyway because somehow it doesn't bother me once we start moving. I guess I don't like being closed in and stationary. Explains why I never liked Alien Encounter.

Something that's helped me go on things that make me a tad uncomfortable is knowing that while there may not appear to be an escape, there is ALWAYS an escape even if you don't see it. I can't and won't avoid rides (except M:S) so remembering that I will never be truly trapped helps. Good luck!!!

I agree, the worst ones for me are M:S and CyberSpace Mountain/ Sum of all Thrills...... I get so worried it will break and I can't get out and it takes away from the ride!....not to mention the motion sickness...

I don't usually suffer with claustrophobia but I do find the stretching room(HM) and the library(ToT) quite uncomfortable. Its not just being packed in there, but the fact quite often people seem to forget they are wearing a backpack and having it squashed up against your face really isn't the nicest experience ever!
