Disneyworld alone..

Hi everyone!

I am new to this board and wanted to ask all you disney lovers about travelling to Disneyworld Florida alone. I'm from the UK and have never been before, I'm only 19 and because of an unfortunate situation the person I was going with can no longer come, everything was already booked, and I currently have nobody else to go with due to prices of flights etc. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice about travelling to a Disneyworld on my own as well as it being my first time there! I don't want to pull out as the flight etc is non refundable and I paid a lot of money towards it. Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance :)

Welcome to the boards. Look at it this way - there will never ever be a time where you'll have to ask someone "what do you want to do?" "Where would you like to eat?" "I'm tired. Ok if we go back to the room?" You can do whatever you want, whenever you want. Sometimes that might feel lonely. Sometimes it might feel freeing. Besides I've seen plenty of people who were alone even with someone if you know what I mean. Have fun.

I think you will have a blast! I agree that you will be the "master of your own fun" so to speak. I think you will probably enjoy the pace that you set for yourself, as opposed to the pace you set to accommodate someone else. I imagine that when you are on your own you will be able to observe far more than those of us traveling with hot, tired, or whining children (whom we love dearly) can. In fact, I've seen a lot of others post their solo trip reports and they always seem to have a really relaxed time and have the best people-watching stories!

In fact, you should consider doing a "Selfie" trip report of your own! How fun would that be? You could take all of us on these boards with you!

@amberinwonderland I took four solo trips in my bachelor days. I had a blast on each and every one of them. To briefly echo what everyone else said, you control your day. You can also go on the single rider line for some of the rides with zero regrets of breaking up your party. I would also bring an ipod/ipad and or maybe a book to read while you are standing in lines or eating.
Good luck and enjoy.

don't be afraid to talk to people around you either. If you wait for a parade, a bus or are waiting for a dining reservation don't be shy about striking up a conversation we have met some of the nicest people that way. Also, don't be shy about asking the photopass photographers to take your picture with your own camera....lots of people do this and the CM's will happily oblige.

Just curious....how long will you be at WDW?

This. Especially coming from out of the country it might be tough to get over the hump with striking up a conversation with someone, but I would suggest it!

Enjoy single rider lines too!

As others have said, you can control you own schedule in a way that is completely different than having to worry about anyone else. You can do what you want, when you want. Maybe you can decide things like which parks, early or late (or both), park commando (type A) or relaxed (people watcher), extras like downtown Disney and/or waterparks and/or minigolf. Websites like this can help. Read everything of interest and believe about half of it. Park maps online can aid in identifying areas of interest and may have current schedules. We are very jealous of your upcoming trip and hope you really enjoy it. We agree with most of the previous suggestions, particularly talking to those around you.

I went on an 11 night trip last year (July1 - July12) that ended up being solo.
My wife had changed jobs a few months earlier and couldn't get more than 3 days off in a row during that time. Which coming from the West Coast isn't enough because of time spent in travel.
So my college roomate, who's a truck driver, decided to fill in for her and take a week off from driving and spend it hanging out with me at WDW.
Unfortunately, the day before he was gonna drive into Orlando, he was involved in a truck accident in Nashville & had to head back to his homebase in Phoenix.
He was fine, but my fate was sealed, it was now a completely solo trip.
And it ended up being amazing.
I was able to explore and spend time doing things I had always wanted to but never could with someone else.
I only spent 2 days in the parks & 2 days in the H2O parks. The rest of the time I was exploring Downtown Disney, Wide World of Sports and all the hotel grounds thoroughly.
While I'd been to all these places before, my wife never would've put up with my spending 2-3 hours at each of Caribbean Beach, Port Orleans & Coronado Springs scouring every inch of property and soaking it all in.
I also got to know quite a few bartenders throughout the entire resort. That's another thing she wouldn't have been too down with.

It's not the type of vacation that would appeal to everybody. But to a WDW fanatic like me, it was heaven!
There's now very few nooks & crannies within Disney World I haven't explored.
I really look forward to my trip this September with my Wife.
But I also look forward to making another solo trip in the future.
Doing whatever you want in a place you're crazy about makes for an amazing time.

I LOVE going solo! I have been solo the past 5 trips with my next this September with the Food and Wine Fest. I highly recommend doing the World this way to anyone that has the chance to. You get to do what you want, when you want without having to listen to anyone but yourself. I find the Castmembers seem to be more talkative to me too. Don't be afraid to eat at any of the Table Service places either as I find I have no problem with the staff finding me a nice table, I just make sure I tell them the kind of table I would like and they will usually accommodate me plus the wait staff seems to be nice to me. I also stay at PO Riverside and have a wonderful relaxing time there as well. Relax and enjoy it as it will be a great experience.

you might want to consider some of the table service restaurants where you are seated with other parties for dinner at least night, it will help you strike up a conversation and might help if you get a little lonely.

I hate going to big social places alone but feel extremely comfortable at Disney. I'm sure you'll meet people by the pool at night. One of my favorite memories was hanging out at night talking to people from all over the world. Some alone and some with huge families. Disney is one of those places that creates a contagious atmosphere where everyone seems to step out of their comfort zone and be outgoing/fun.

I just got back on Tuesday from a 5 day solo trip (my second) and had a blast. Didn't have to deal with "I want to go back to the room, I want to sleep in, I don't want to go back to MK to see the fireworks, etc." issues when you travel with someone else. I made a few ADRs, but otherwise winged it. Did FP+ for those rides I wanted to ride the most. Agree about single rider lines. I've ridden some of the more popular rides with the most interesting strangers, many solo themselves. And you won't have any problems striking up conversations with others as you wait for your bus/ride/dining reservation, etc. Everyone is there for the same purpose - to be a kid again and have fun. And guests who are frequent visitors are more than happy to impart their advice and wisdom to those who are not as experienced. I'd never ridden ToT and got great advice from two families while waiting in line for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, which alleviated my anxiety about the ride and had a blast, thanks to talking to strangers in line.

Let the CMs know it is your first visit and your are traveling by yourself - especially those at your resort - and they will do everything to make your visit special (I was going to say 'magical' but sometimes that gets old).

Reading everyone's lovely comments has made me a lot more comfortable in travelling there alone. I'm counting down the days now(only 35) I will definitely do a selfie trip report, as I will be taking plenty of pictures anyways as it is my first time! Thanks for your help :)
