Disney's Streaming Services: Disney+ (and Hulu, ESPN+, Star, & hotstar)

Currently you can subscribe to D+ or Hulu separately without the other. Since there's now only a dollar difference to add the second service and the apps are combining and the apps are integrating next year, that will be part of the price increase. The ability to subscribe to one without the other.

Agreed, this is something that we've talked about and predicted for years now.

Disney sent us the increase email a few days ago here in Canada.

Do you have the details? I can't find anything substantive online regarding Canada. I believe we're still 15.99CAD/mo for premium. Ostensibly quite a bit cheaper than the US with currency conversion.

Plus we have that weird standard plan (12.99/mo) to drop 4k and dolby atmos, but still ad-free.

We are on an annual plan, so it’s basically going from $120 to $160/year. Our sub is through Google
Play, so it was actually them who emailed us.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying or if you misunderstood me.

The ability to subscribe to one without the other will phase out.

Um, the current app is being replaced next year.

Also what Brian is predicting is that is current D+/Hulu only bundle price package not the app would be phased out and Disney would just have a single bundle for D+/Hulu/ESPN+. And I can see his point, its possible Disney would do that to consolidate and simplify the packages.
I do the Hulu/D+ bundle and nobody in my house watches sports, so this would really irritate me.

We dropped cable last year because I was tired of paying an extra premium for channels we never watched- sports and cable news.

I’m not paying for ESPN.

From last night's Jimmy Kimmel monologue...

A lot of people have been asking me if there are conditions for my return to the air, and there is one. Disney has asked me to read the following statement, and I agreed to do it. Here we go [reads from sheet of paper]: "To reactivate your Disney+ and Hulu account, open the Disney+ app on your smart TV or TV-connected device."

Sports are just part of the inevitable package for all streamers, as it just makes them too much money to not offer it. So unfortunately no matter which one you go to you’ll end up with some sports to go along with it, whether you watch it or not.

I wish it was easier to watch sports (Bruins and European football) on streaming instead you have to buy 5 million streaming apps. Better off just getting cable.

It’s sad we’ve reached that point, I love college football and barely follow it anymore, I still love the sport but it’s become too hard to watch the games I want, now I just watch whatever game is on cable rather than following specific teams (other than my Utes), with 20 different tv and streaming packages necessary to see all the games it’s simply not worth it anymore.

That's where I'm at with sports as well. If there's something that happens to be on a local channel over the air or something I have, I might watch. But I hardly follow any teams specifically now. Most of the time I just end up watching a 10min YouTube recap and calling it a day.

It feels like these media companies are gaslighting us with sports. If sports are in such demand why do they need to be forced on consumers who don't want to pay for them?

I hope Disney keeps two options, a sports and a non-sports package.
