Disney's Streaming Services: Disney+ (and Hulu, ESPN+, Star, & hotstar)

It all comes down to value and semantics. In the end there is still content you don't consume that you're still paying for, whether you find value in the overall service or not.
I also don't eat the end pieces of bread or the shells of the egg, but still feel I'm getting enough value from the loaf and the dozen. ;)

There's little in life we consume completely when we pay for it.

But as you said - value and semantics. :)

"The remarkable story of a Dutch woman who risked her life to shelter Anne Frank’s family from the Nazis for more than two years and then preserved Anne’s diary, is the subject of A Small Light, a National Geographic limited series ordered by Disney+. The project comes from Grey’s Anatomy alums Joan Rater and Tony Phelan, Susanna Fogel (The Flight Attendant), ABC Signature and Keshet Studios."

1. So, Disney and Netflix made a deal with Sony such that Sony's pictures would, after leaving the theaters, go first to Netflix in the Pay 1 Window, then go to live on Disney+ for the Pay 2 Window. Disney would also get to put a lot (if not all) of Sony's library on D+/Hulu.

2. Previously, Sony's Animation was going to Netflix in the Pay1, but, Sony's Live-Action was going to Starz (corporate sibling of Lionsgate/Summit).

(Sony can play the field like this because that studio doesn't run a liear or streaming channel, nor does Sony have a corporate sister or overlord that runs a streamer.)

3. The new Sony/Netflix/Disney deal begins in 2022. All Sony Live and Animated goes to Netflix, then Disney.

4. However... Spider-Man: No Way Home was a movie made in 2021. So, where will it go?

5. Starz has just announced that they'll be getting Spider-Man's Pay1 some time later this year. After all, that's the contract. So, while other Sony/Marvel films may migrate to D+ sooner than later, it will be later for No Way Home.

6. As a side note, Starz/Lionsgate/Summit have made no secret over how much they would love to be bought out by some bigger player in the streaming wars. Starz only now has Lionsgate/Summit as a feeder, and that ain't going to cut it. This makes this announcement from Starz rather funny...

The CEO says this is "all part of their strategy"... a strategy of *retention.* No Way Home was their last Sony movie that they're able to *retain*.

This seems pretty major to be but alongside The Wonder Years dropping on Disney+ this month we will also be receiving blackish AND grownish! This is a big surprise but a welcome one as it provides more mature programming

Disney worldwide across its streaming platforms now has 196M subs, which includes an 11.8M increase to D+ alone this quarter. And this is before the launch of D+ in more regions later this year.

At this rate Disney will surpass Netflix in subs worldwide, which currently sits at 222M, by the end of 2022. Disney today did reaffirm its goal of 230-260M worldwide by 2024, but I think they'll blow that out of the water by next year.
