Can anyone give me any info on why the Skyway closed? I never really got a straight answer from anyone. Also, is there any chance that Disney will open it back up sometime in the Future?

ALSO... welcome to the forums! Have fun. You might want to get acquainted with the search feature. It can be a little daunting at first... but it will make your time here SO MUCH easier. There are seldom things that we haven't at least touched on before.

That said... I hope you jump in wherever you can and have a good time!

Some people say that the Skyway closed because of the empolyees death a few months before it closed and others will say that it wasnt a handicapped or disability friendly attraction.
I think the Skyway was closed to for two reasons. The first was the liability factor. The skyway wasnt the easiest attraction to monitor. It was well known as a place to get away with things like pot smoking and engaging in "adult" behavior. (so i heard)Then you had those idiots that would spit off the ride throw things onto people below. (so ive seen)
The second factor was the slow and labor intensive load and unload. It was slow as far as the line went but for cast members it seemed very physically exhausting. Very manual and hands on. So i suppose that for Disney it made CENTS to close it. Besides less is more?

No. They will not put something BACK into the parks that they took the time and energy to remove.

Welcome to the boards! Don't take anything we say seriously!

Did you know that the reason the really closed was that Michel Jackson was going to install it in his park.... Unfortunetly he lost the money on antiqus after disney already removed everything..... :lookaroun hehe

also i am going to add my 2 cents (thats the first time ive said that). riding the skyride allowed guests to see some of the huge warehouses that were housing the rides. and as we all kno disney has always been good about hiding these buildings. so i suppose it kinda took away from the magic

Imagine walking through the park and having a drink fall on your head...or a camera...or even a stroller!

It all happened.

Just another in the list of reasons the Skyway is no more. It left a nice piece of real estate there, though.......

Well, If you really want to experience what the skyway was like, there is the ski-lift at Blizzard Beach. It is pretty similar.

Anyway, the Skyway did leave some nice new land to expand on. The tommorowland building could probably be easily demolished to make room for a new attraction.

Could you imagine walking around minding your own business then something falling on top of you? Yeah, can you say, "Lawsuit?"

I never really cared for the Skyway, really. I always hated hieghts. :(

Also, they have one at the Bronx Zoo that goes higher than Disney's, I believe(although I definately felt safer on Disney's).

The only bad part about leaving room in Tomorrowland is that they will have all the better excuse to take down CoP.

i personally like the sky ride at busch gardens which i have to say is fairly similar (same kind of ride cars as disney's) to disney's. and also u get to pass right about all the animals and see some camels too..... so much fun......... they should add a little sky ride to ak just over a small portion of the savanna and make it look like a jungle cart kinda thing. something that looks like it came from swiss family robinson and it could pass above the trees and stuff it would be a fun way to get from one side of the park to the other.

Does anyone have a picture of the skyway, I'm drawing a blank on what it looks like.

(I'll probably remember it at a later date)
