Disney's Skyway

I feel that another reason for the Skyway closing is the fact that it was a 1 way trip. So with the that in mind people with stollers would have to trek back the station they boarded to get there strollers back.

I think it is a combination of everything: Insurance/Liability; Dangers of Thrown Objects; Being able to see "backstage" WAY too much; and it really just looked kind of out of place - would have fit in well in the middle of AK

Now, I have a question, which I asked a long time ago and never got a real answer: Where exactly was the turning point? I know it was a very unique cable lift ride in that it made a near 90-degree turn. I know it was a green painted steel structure with a big wheel on it, but I was young the last time I rode and can't remember where that was. Was it inside the park, or just back in the trees north/northeast of Tomorrowland or what? Any pics?

When the cart entered the station, people would get off on one side. After they go off, its just a quick u-turn and it was on the opposite side ready for people to board it. All turning occured in the stations. As for what turned it, I believe there were wheels turning it at the station.

I hope you weren't replying to my post - but I'm not sure. If so, I don't think you really understood what I was asking.

As you rode the skyway, you actually went through a little un-manned station, which was really just a platform, and you turned 90-degree to head into Fantasyland, or toward Tomorrowland if heading from FL. I know that you got on and off at each, and they turned immediately around in the stations, but this was halfway thru the ride. I'm just trying to remember where that was.

The turn was inside the park, it was closer to a 45º turn that was located in the middle of the Grand Prix Raceway. There is a grassy area that can be seen on the Northern part of the track just to the right of the 'final turn' of the track.

Here is a picture of the turn:

The turn used to rest on the hill at the top right of the picture:

You can make sort of make out the turn here although it is slightly backlit you can see the turn on the right edge of the picture

I guess I misunderstood your question? I totally forgot about that midway station (although I don't remember a big turn in it).

YES! That's it! THANKS! I didn't realize it was right there in the middle of everything. I DO remember that even as an 8-yr-old kid, I was looking at ALL of the rooves of the buildings and trying to figure out which one was which ride, etc. I've been technically minded and interested in how things work since I was born!
