No it wasn’t. That’s just what they use as their excuse. Any of us on this forum could have come up with a better fireworks show than Enchantment. The 50th event was crushed by management and management decisions (and lack thereof)
Cedar point had a much better celebration for their 150th then what Disney put out. They even had a night time parade

If I knew that was out of the realm of possibility I would. Or at least till my trip is over the first week of July
…you realize that’s what most say and it actually reinforces the problems:

“Well, the management decisions are bad and it’s hurting the product…but I gotta trip coming up…”

I'm looking at this from a why I didn't bother to visit during the Anniversary celebration. From an outside perspective there just didn't seem like they were doing much without purchasing i.e. food, merchandise, etc. Had they of done more things that felt special, it could have swayed us to visit this year even with covid protocols vs wait for next year. Not even the commercials seemed to hype me up.
The other side of the “celebrations” is it doesn’t alter anyone’s plans as they once did. People go or they don’t…modern travel. So why overdo it?

Not so in the pink castle and wand days…where there was a measurable increase in traffic and data collected clearly indicated people aligned to the special event. That ended for a variety of reasons.

This really doesn't surprise me, as there seems to be something obviously broken with the corporate culture over in Orlando. I hate to harp on this, but the fact it took people calling them out on the Internet for management to realise that it was a mistake to put a DJ on Main Street USA as the last thing people saw as the exited the Magic Kingdom every night shows they really don't have a feel for the product they're selling. You almost get the impression all the theming and immersion business is forced on Team Orlando by Imagineering, and they roll their eyes and go along with it until they can start making their own decisions that slowly strip away all those 'unnecessary' elements that they assume guests don't care about anyway.
I agree with you. That type of thinking would help explain why the 50th anniversary has been lackluster (according to others). They definitely cut some corners in California, too. But maybe less so.

I’ve mentioned this before but back in 2011, for whatever reason, there were folks from TDO visiting the DLR. I stood in front of two of them in line for Indy and I overheard one of them pointing out all the extra and “unnecessary” stuff in the queue and in our Adventureland surroundings. He said that California/TDA wastes a lot of money and they’re able to do things for cheaper out in Florida. I heard him laugh and snicker, so he was proud of cutting corners. He was absolutely bragging.

This was over a decade ago, but that mindset may still be running smoothly out there.

My case their should be “justifiable homicide” is bolstered by this…

That, and taco barges were already in the works before Covid as well, and succeeded...... Disney World was on a downward spiral before the pandemic ever started.
