Wow, Netflix might have this in the bag!

It'll be interesting to see what comes of it, as it would have a potential issue getting through the regulatory process given Netflix's stature as the #1 streamer. With Paramount (or even Comcast) it was two smaller streamers merging to take on the big three of Netflix, Disney, and Amazon. But with Netflix it could be seen as a move that is anti-competitive.

I think they will argue that Google is #1 with YouTube. Also, this administration has been weak in court cases, so I think they will be okay. I'm curious what the ramifications will be on the streaming landscape, theaters, and even Universal parks.

It will depend on how "streamer" is defined in this context. As a case can be made on either side.

As for the ramifications it was always going to lead to consolidation both in streaming and in theatrical. What that looks like 1, 2, 5 years down the line who knows. Netflix committed to keeping theatrical, but we all know how those type of commitments go, ie they are about as good as the toilet paper its written on.

It's official. I'm not happy Netflix won, but I am relieved Paramount-Skydance lost. This story will be fascinating to follow.

Like I said hold onto your butts, its not over until the actual close of the deal and shareholders vote to approve it. Many things can happen between now and then. Like I said a lawsuit or two is likely next, as from what I've been seeing Paramount had been offering almost the same terms for the entire company not just the Studio and HBO, ie better shareholder value.

And a $5 billion break-up fee. Bloomberg is reporting $30 per share. We will know the details soon. Historic.
What I read is that WB wants $30/share not that Netflix offered it, $28/share still appears to be the current offer from Netflix.

Also Paramount offered the same $5B breakup fee.

Again long road ahead in my opinion. Look how long the 21st Century battle between Disney and Comcast took, 2 months. This isn't likely ending soon, there hasn't been "best and final offers" yet.
