This seems like one that could have real world uses especially at the company itself. One that comes to mind with the current focus on disabled guests would be usable by guests who are blind. The screens in use around the park could be a huge tool for them.

Anyone else reminded of the Kdatlyno touch sculptures from Larry Nivens 'Known Space' series.

Best application I can think of for this is an input device for wearable computers that the user could operate and navigate without looking at.
The frictive tactile feedback feature would let a single "screen" serve as multiple layers of input controls that the user could quickly select or change based on memory and sense of touch.

It's cool, but I really can't think of a situation that I would ever be in that I would ever need to use this.
