Because, for what they need to make it work, they will not do.

But to try to push this back to MDE - I could easily see Disney trying to bring the service back but if they shafted Mears the way the scuttlebutt claims they have then it's going to be very difficult/expensive to bring it back.

OTOH it may be the managements' thought that the train service will be the new DME. Though with the train supposedly going to Disney Springs I don't know how that works with all the luggage. Plus the trains can't possibly be running as often as the buses so that's going to extend time getting to the park...
I'm not sure why people keep bringing up the train as part of this conversation. From everything we've heard, it's really not going to work as a replacement for DME and it's going to cost extra anyway.

But what's the point of it then? Even though it's a fast train I don't think it works as a "daily" trip to Disneyworld from around Florida?

The blue sky for the train is Tampa to Miami with all points in between as the market. Disney is just a spur line and not enough of a market to pull funds for the ~5 billion dollar investment cost

5th gate? Just build a new resort Bob.

It 100% is connecting to WDW to be a day trip option. It’s wildly impractical as a airport connection option. You’re not allowed to bring luggage onto a Disney bus, so what are you gonna do, walk from sort-of-near Disney Springs to your hotel?

Just because the perk didn't benefit you directly doesn't mean it's not a big deal it's being cut. Maybe Disney will eliminate something you like in the future that others here won't miss? Objectively, Disney removing things that used to be included in the price is bad for guests as a whole.
The only thing they have cut I used occasionally was the DVC perk of free Valet parking. I only used it when I went to a different resort for dinner. I don't think Disney raised prices when they introduced the ME, it was to entice folks to stay on-site and after many years of doing that and just like a good drug dealer they got everyone addictied to the free ride and now the dealer is tired of giving it away. Makes me wonder if there is any ownership deep down at Mears since they will be getting the cash from flyers now.

Well for those of us who have an ocean to cross and a 16 hour plus travel day getting on a bus at MCO was nice since we dont have the option of not flying.....
Now that is a loooong flight! The bus will still be there, you just have to pay for it. I looked at what the other Orlando resorts offered for airport transportation and they all have $€£¥ costs outside of the hotel and entertainment tickets.

No parking fee but you have a hefty maintenance fee. Disney will get their money one way or another
What I spent in the buy in has long paid for itself and the maintenance I pay per year is still probably less than then cost of a 7 night stay at a value resort. You have to choose wisely with DVC the cool resorts with lots of buildings and roofs cost more to maintain than the resort with just a couple of buildings.

There might be a Disney provided option to hotels or there is always Uber / taxis.

Maybe for some budget-conscious solo travellers it would work if the cost of the train ticket and an Uber/taxi from Disney Springs was significantly cheaper than just catching an Uber or taxi from the airport.

Overall, though, the experience of buying train tickets, rounding up the family and luggage onto a train, then getting everything off again at Disney Springs and, in the best of all cases, waiting around for a Disney bus to your hotel is something I can't even imagine them marketing to guests as a convenience.

So happy to see the price of rooms drop by the amount Disney was “charging” for DME that was included in the room rate. Oh wait…

I hope Mears’ offerings to WDW and back to MCO are well-received and they make a boatload of money from them. I also hope whoever at TWDC made the decision to end DME ends up regretting it.

And Lynx is cheaper than Mears.

But that doesn't take you to your hotel. It will take you to a central hub, where you then still have to get an Uber/Lyft or some other type of transport to get you to your final destination. It will take longer, be a much bigger hassle, and potentially even cost more money overall.

Taking the train is going to be far more inconvenient than basically any other option. It's not going to be a legitimate option for the vast majority of guests unless Disney adds some sort of mass transit to Disney Springs that can get you from there to your resort with your luggage.

Depends on your hotel. You can get to the Disney Springs neighbor hotels using Lynx.

I used to take Disney Transport from Downtown Disney / Springs to my Resort hotel as well but that’s probably not possible now with the Springs security check although I did go from Pop to the Hilton using Springs in 2019 I think?

Anyways... my point is that there are many transit options and having the train will be a great addition to the lineup.

People will still use Uber, and Mears, and people will use the train as well!

You can't take luggage on the Disney buses, so using Disney transport from Springs to your resort isn't an option for most people coming from the airport.

I'm sure some people will use the train, but likely only solo travelers or maybe couples with small amounts of luggage. I just can't see it working for families or people with a lot of luggage. I think the number of people who actually use it to get from the airport to Disney property will be very very small; it will probably get more use from people in Florida going to Disney for the day.

I have many times. Boats too (springs to port Orleans) but I usually travel with a single rollerboard and I’ve seen people take more luggage then that into the parks! Haha.

But that’s me as a solo traveler.

I think the train will be a nice option for travelers and many will choose to take it and then take whatever transit is available from Disney springs. We shall see in a few years hopefully!
