Someone was just complaining about the old and new Ariel are in the parks simultaneously.

And now, this is what you're advocating, you can choose one or the other. No one's being replaced. The original movie still exists to be viewed. You can still buy and put original Ariel posters in your room and buy her action figure. She isn't replaced.

You can watch a movie with a dark-haired James Bond or the movie with the blonde-haired James Bond. Don't know why hair color doesn't matter but skin color does.

1. I haven't 'advocated' for anything. All I've been saying is that no one should be surprised when there is backlash regarding a character's iconography being changed. I literally said, "I'm not saying it's good or bad." As for new characters replacing old ones... I wasn't talking about Ariel. I was talking about comics. In which new characters usually do replace old ones, for marketing reasons.

2. I already said hair color matters too, and bringing in 007 is a whataboutism.

Can’t speak for anyone else, but I can both recognize that there are decreases in quality while also continuing to find enjoyment and magic where we can. (This goes for both parks and movies.)

There just was something about Aladdin that made me go and see it 4 times at the cinema

It's not just you lol.

I saw Aladdin 8 times in theaters. 4 times at my local AMC (took friends, family, etc. across different showings) and then 4 more times at my local second-run theater. Tickets only cost $3 there and popcorn for $2, so it's a steal to watch movies there after they make their initial run in theaters (after about a month or so). Plus I get to support a local theater as they're becoming rare these days.

I really really loved the remake. I've come to the conclusion that for me it was a combination of the songs, characters, colors, the production, additional story elements (like the Genie's family) from the original, etc. My only really gripe was that Jafar could be more menacing, but alas.

When the full trailer dropped, I was immediately hooked on the "A Whole New World" snippet. The dramatic instrumental music (wasn't used in the movie so it was just for trailer thematics) combined with Naomi's voice just did it for me.

Yeah, he's presumably native to the fictional country of Maldonia, which has an unknown geographical location but after a quick google search (?) appears unlikely to be in Africa.

Correct. “Maldonia” is a combination of Macedonia and Maldives. Mans is not black lol. I remember Disney being criticized for that.

Ariel is a character that was portrayed as a young white woman in one version of the film and as a young black woman in another version.

Change…unfortunately…takes time. If it feels “forced”…you defeat yourself.

But my belief here is I think Disney is not “arrow up” and that affects box office as well. They are struggling mightily in the public/world eye…it’s a drag.

I also think nobody wanted this and maybe the gimmick is wearing off?
