News Disney's Hollywood Studios announces 30th Anniversary celebration details for May 1 2019

I don't get what they even hoped to gain from this. It's not going to generate social media buzz, they're not monetizing the live stream, it's not going to get anybody to book a vacation, it's going to leave everyone who DID tune in disappointed. Literally would have been better to not have any kind of ceremony whatsoever.

To be fair, I don't think Disney said anything about an announcement. I believe it was users on here who tipped us off to it. The Disney Parks Blog post mentions nothing about an announcement.

May have just been wishful thinking on your part. Or maybe they decided to veer off of a bigger reveal at the last minute.. it's certainly happened before.

Yes. It was here that it was announced that Disney announced a forthcoming announcement that has now been announced. The announcement announcement was at yesterday’s media event where they announced the TSL sit down.
