wow do any of us remember the old disney credit card, NOT the one by bank one or chase...

I remember the card of which you speak. I had one and I believe you could use it like a store charge card, only at Disney like the Disney Stores, DL, WDW etc. (I too miss the Disney Magic Club RickEff.)

I just built a house last year (well, I didn't build it, I payed a developer to build it) and we paid for lots of stuff on our card. Landscaping, appliances, deck, movers, much much more. We are now taking a trip to Disney World in August and have nearly $500 to use in rewards. Definitely worth it.

Each point you earn is considered one dollar ($1). You spend those dollars just like any other dollar. They normally expire after awhile but, I think it is something like 3-4 years. I was told that if you purchase something that costs $150 or so, you get $2, if you spend $120, you get $1. In other words, they round it up or down.

It is not rounded per purchase, but per total charges over a billing cycle. So, for example if your charges for a billing month is $1950, you would get 20 reward points.

We use ours for just about everything, and pay off the balance every month. The points add up very quickly. We used ours this year to purchase MNNSHP tickets.

I buy a lot of stuff for work on my card so I racked up 650 disney dollars for my last trip. It allowed us to stay at AKL!!

We discovered that most of our utility companies and even our mortgage company allows you to "pay your bills online" - which means you set up an account with a credit card number and they simply e-mail you your statement each month. It's convenient because you don't have to write so many checks, and it's all done on secure servers so it's as safe as anything else. So all that stuff goes on our Disney card, which we pay off every month to avoid interest charges.

We get down to WDW about 1-2 times a year, and always buy our park passes with the credit card as well. So we always have several hundred dollars on our rewards card. It's great!

Ive been doing some research on the disneys credit card. I think its pretty neat that you can earn points to put towards your next vacation, but the catch is how many points do you need to actually get somthing?

-Yes, as has been said, rewards are 1%, and are dollar equivalents.
T-he interest fee isn't any higher than other major cards (if you carry a balance).
- Card gives you 10-20% discount on various items, similar to AP discounts for tours and some merchandise purchase.
- If you book a Disney vacation on the card, there is no interest on that vacation amount for 6 months.
- There are card offers and specials periodically, for instance, I just purchased tickets to Mary Poppins on Broadway before the tickets go on sale to the public.

It is a credit card, and has all the associated pitfalls, but does have some benefits too!

Another great thing about the Chase Visa card...in addition to the points, you are also entitled to a free character meet and greet that is exclusive to cardholders. It's in Innoventions West, if I recall, and I think it runs from 1-4PM daily (I could be wrong on the times, don't quote me). You are allowed to bring up to 6 guests in with one card.

My wife and I took our kids there when we went to WDW in April, and had exclusive "face time" with Mickey, Pluto, and Donald...and, you get one free 5x7 of the visit. Not too bad!

I love my Disney Visa! When you have at least 20 points (dollars), you can have them put on a sort of gift card that they send you (they cannot be applied to your credit card), which can later be reloaded - if you have earned more points - simply by calling customer service. If you don't already have the rewards "gift card" - it takes a few weeks to receive.

Your earned dollars can be spent at the Disney store, too. We were at the mall near Christmas and decided to buy some gifts. We called from our cell phone right there to have our most recently earned points transferred to the "gift card" and then spent them immediately! The points (dollars) expire after 5 years (they expire in one year after they have been transfered to your "gift card").

I also enjoy the other perks like the character meet-n-greet at Epcot. There is (at least last time we were there) a 20% discount at World of Disney in Downtown Disney is you use your Disney Visa. Sweet.

You earn dollars whenever you use your card. You can pay your electric bill, your cable bill - your mortgage if they let you, and earn points. Just use the money you would normally use to pay the bills to pay your credit card.

Earning Disney Reward Dollars is a good thing. :)

First off, let me start by saying we have had this card since Day 1. As a matter of fact, we were issued special cards that say member since Day 1. Very Cool!

We have spent thousands of dollars on this card, and yes, the rule of thumb is that for every $100.00 you spend you earn a Disney Dollar that can be later redeemed and used for Disney purchases. We have done this and used the Disney Dollars every time we make the trip.

Until recently, I was all for using this card for all my big purchases. Im now reconsidering this. I've heard that there are some other cards out there that offer more points per $100.00 spent. So, if there are such cards out there, it would be beneficial to consider using them instead. For example, if a card gives you 2 or 3 dollars per $100.00 spent, wouldn't it be more beneficial to use it instead, redeem the points for cash, and take the cash to Disney. Or what about airline card points? If these cards can offer airline tickets faster then you could earn the Disney Dollars that it would cost for airline tickets, wouldn't it be smart to do that instead? I need to look more into this and see if such cards exist. I think they are out there... and if they are, Im going to do the smart thing. I will forever hold onto the Disney Visa to take advantage of the Disney perks that have been mentioned through this thread, (pictures, dining plan, discounts)

I know it was kinda long... what do you think?

Three times the fun!!!

Since we have THREE Disney VISA cards, we get THREE FREE 5x7 pictures at the FREE exclusive character meet and greet.
You can transfer your points at $10 increments.
You have to spend $25 to get the World of Disney discount.
No interest the 1st 6 months.
Yes, there are many cards out there that offer cash back in various ways...
Discover Card has doing it forever, and has different programs.
BP (gas) has a card which offers 5% back on BP gas purchases, and 1% on everything else (10% back for the first few months)
and like the BP card there are many other cards (like Discover) that promote specific purchase bonuses where you get higher (than just 1%) back for those specific purchases.

"Since we have THREE Disney VISA cards, we get THREE FREE 5x7 pictures at the FREE exclusive character meet and greet."

You have 3 different Disney Visa card accounts or 3 cards issued for one account? I mean if we go to the meet and greet since my husband and I each have a card on the same account can we get 2 free pictures ???

3 times the fun

3 different design Disney Cards, 3 different accounts and both my 12yo daughter and I have a card for each account.
I just kept applying at Downtown Disney (and getting $10 gift cards), and they kept sending me more.
All I can say is if you've been refused for a Disney card elsewhere (like I had been many times), if you apply at either of the booths at Downtown Disney you (obviously) have a better chance of being accepted...and you get a $10 gift card just for your application (whether you are accepted or not), or a nice WDW tote bag (with a great thermal pouch for storing your frozen water bottles!!!).
Last Spring break my brother and I signed up about 8 times each during the week we were there...that's $80 each...that's when I got my 3rd card.
Last trip we spent nothing, instead using the $200+ in rewards for everything.
Like the others, I pay all my bills (that take credit card payments), through my Disney Visa...State Farm car insurance, Sprint, Dish Network, Alltel, and all of my purchases...including our biweekly Disney vacations and annual passports.

Wow I'll have to check that out in dec. My husband got a offer in the mail for another Disney Rewards Visa he thought it was just a mistake that he already had a card so toss it. It was a pretty good deal too 1 year 0% apr and a free dvd player after first purchase. Now I wish I wouldnt have tossed it. Thanks for the info.....

I think you've got the right idea. There are a lot better rewards programs out there. On my Citi card, I earn 5% CASH back at gas stations, grocery stores and drug stores, and 1% everywhere else. It is calculated per-purchase, and when I get at least $50 built up, I sign in online and request a check. I am thinking about getting a Disney Visa card; not for the rewards, but for the perks and discounts at the parks.
