Disneyland's 60th Birthday: Rumors, Speculation and News

In my view, all of the gold for the 50th was pushing the boundaries of taste. I am trepidatious about how they will handle diamond decorations, especially since they are again going with the nostalgia angle. It just seems like they could very easily over do the 'bling' as a way to make this look more different than what has been done before.

Yup. Guess we'll find out on the 17th - hoping for art of the castle overlay on that day.

I'm late reading the Miceage Update this week, but I'm fascinated by these backstage alleys they are building behind Main Street USA to deal with crowds for the new night parade, new fireworks, the 60th "Castle Show", etc.

I wonder if they'll be open all the time, or just opened during peak times before and after parades, fireworks, etc.?

And at Magic Kingdom they are radically reworking the entire Hub area in addition to getting a backstage alley. I hope the Disneyland plan doesn't mow down trees and landscaping to put in superfreeway walkways and MyMagic+ viewing areas like they seem to be doing at Magic Kingdom.

Pan is the next dark ride that's going down soon, but it'll be down for a few days. Think it's possible for any new enhancements to be installed in 3-5 days?

I honestly doubt a week is enough if you just think that Mermaid closed for what was it? Almost a month? Just to do a few things.

Apparently we're not getting any real announcements - just the logo, maybe some castle art. Announcements for everything else have been put off, or so I've heard. Hope that's not true.
Really? That's funny I've actually heard the exact opposite. Their announcements would range from all of the festivities for the 60th, as well as the new Soarin' update.

Exactly. And the Expo itself has become insane. Have you ever been to one?
Nope, but I was visiting Disneyland last year while the expo was in session. I definitely saw a spike in the crowds during the expo days, especially during the evening/nighttime.

I literally had no idea it was going on until I saw the signs down Harbor Blvd lol.

Haha that's funny. Are you planning on attending next year's Expo?

Tickets are usually in the 200s, no? And it's even more expensive if you want to see performances and other events within the expo.

I really would like to, but I have to see what I can afford when the time comes. In around 6 months I'll probably have an answer.

I'm really hoping for it.

I don't think the three-day package reaches the two-hundreds range, but I could be wrong. Performances and panels are free of charge.

Don't feel bad if you can't make it. Lines are ridiculously long. You'd have to go to sleep at 2 pm and wake up at 12 am to catch the really popular panels/performances. I went to the first one and it was a blast because no one knew about it. I come back two years later I'm 2011 and it was a madhouse. I left after maybe two or three hours...haven't been back since.

Yeah, and to be honest, I don't know if I want to deal with all that craziness. I'd rather just chill out at the parks and watch all the coverage online when I get back to the hotel.

That's exactly what I did last year.

Then again, some of those exhibits are pretty spectacular and are really worth seeing in person.

We'll see... It's still more than a year from now!
