News Disneyland to give Snow White’s Scary Adventures dark ride a major facelift in 2020

While on the Fantasyland upgrade topic, has anybody else noticed in the background of the interviews in The Imagineering Story how there are numerous AIW rear faced projection animatronics? Were they or are they ever supposed to be implemented into our attraction? I recall something about a Queen of Hearts animatronic from RatChat a while back when that renovation happened.

There's already a staircase in the Dwarves's house and cloned versions of the Dwarves figures are already in the Queen's death scene. I know it's not likely, but I'd love to see a new version with modern projection effects. It doesn't necessarily need to be scary, the original scene in Snow White is comedic!

It's extremely obvious that the kiss scene is where the holographic apple scene is and the final bit is where the Dwarves are climbing after the witch. My childhood isn't being ruined or anything, but that whole bit between the dungeon and the very end is some of the best stuff on a Disney ride. It's exactly how those spookhouse rides should be and now it's going to be girly and pleasant.

Unless they re absolute morons they will move the witch’s death scene to right before the new Snow White kiss scene and maybe (hopefully) the witch with the holographic Apple too. The question becomes how they integrate them into the new location and what gets axed to make room.

IMO if they move the witch's death at the end of the forrest area with the kiss after that and the happy ending where the witch's death is now, it will be a welcome change.

And didn't they mention that the structure had been grandfathered? Meaning, they could do anything serious without having to tear down the whole structure and rebuild it from scratch, up to the standards of today.
That’s not how it works. There is no blanket grandfathering bestowed on buildings. Even historic landmarks are not uniformly exempt. The extent of code updates depends on the scope of work.

Indeed! I have to assume these Alice figures were created for that.

There is part of me that thinks this tech would feel a little incongruous in the otherwise quaint and charming DL dark rides vs newer developments like the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Frozen Ever After. Even the generally well regarded Alice projection mapping feels this way to me at times (I think the implementation at Snow is the most successful so far in the FL Dark Ride suite). That said, it's interesting to see that they moved so far along in development before ultimately being cut. Until the Imagineering Story I had imagined the Queen of Hearts was the only such figure built for Alice.

As silly as it may sound, I was thrilled to see the static Alice figures that were added during her refurb. I thought they were beautiful in their simplicity and support the feel of the existing ride while providing a more on-model Alice to the experience. They feel like they've been there since day 1. I'd love to see newer, more on-model Snow White figures come to her attraction. The Queens, Witches, and Dwarfs in her ride have always been pretty solid.

Yeah I'm not opposed to them doing these classic dark ride overhauls (Alice came out great) but this ride is so classic in that it feels like the Murder Ride from House of 1,000 Corpses and I'm worried they're gonna get rid of that.

My biggest concern right now is that the Dwarfs appear to be missing from this new finale. Even the finales in France and Florida had at least a few (if not all) of them (both have Dopey, in any case). However, they are not shown in the concept art presented here. Also, if they somehow relocate the scene(s) with the witch, they need to relocate the Dwarfs as well. I don't want them to be scrapped.

Is there any concept art/confirmation of what will be in the new ride? Considering today’s climate I could see them scrapping the Queen’s death scene altogether.

I'm sorry, I meant "they could NOT do anything with it". I forgot that part.
