News Disneyland to give Snow White’s Scary Adventures dark ride a major facelift in 2020

The Witch had less than 8 minutes of scenes in a 100 minute movie.

So, that should equate proportionately to 9 seconds on the ride.
And the mine is based off a segment that's less than 2 minutes long, but is a whopping 15 seconds long in the ride! Where's the epic dark ride scene of the Dwarves washing their hands which lasts longer than the mine scene in the movie, but is nowhere to be seen at Disneyland?

A few things: @MisterPenguin , formatting a ride based on proportions of screen time is not how to make a good ride and all of us, including Tony Baxter, know that. :)

And @George Lucas on a Bench , you have it all wrong.

[rips wig off]

I am the real Kim Irvine burner account!

Joking aside, you all go a little too rough on Kim when she’s really only made two major bad moves (Disney characters in IASW and Club 33’s hostile takeover of NOS) a record shared by the greatest of modern Imagineers. She has overseen many, many projects that have maintained the aesthetic of Disneyland over the years and she’s done a remarkable job overall.

Sorry, this is the church of Tony Baxter here; we ignore the even worse imagineers than the dark lord Kim Irvine. Those responsible for Superstar Limo and the like.

Three terrible projects. She was involved in butchering the PotC auction scene.

Oh, no. Now @TP2000 will start criticizing my fashion sense!

Only unless you start designing overwrought attractions and interiors.

Ms. Irvine's clothing appears to be quite nice; stylishly casual and flattering, yet age appropriate. Her hair is suspiciously blonde for a woman of, ahem, a certain age. But that's more her OC environment than anything else, so she's simply embracing her local culture.

I have no doubt she loves Disneyland. And I have no doubt the suits mandated these changes that seem to be for the worst.

Good point.

But I doubt the suits mandated the ride be repainted in Malibu Barbie Dream House colors, or given an insipid name like Snow White's Enchanted Wish. It seems to me the buck stops at Ms. Irvine on those creative decisions.

She kind of looks like Madame Leota. Weird.

Was that her thing? I know she spoke about it coming to Disneyland and took some ownership of it, but I thought it was a Florida-driven project.

When the Florida scene did come to Disneyland, the Disneyland-specific changes were all pretty great. I.e. removing the mist screen/ restoring the cave dialogue/ adding the re-animating pirate practical illusion, and restoring the falling timbers.

Remember when they turned JII into a cynical, audience insulting train wreck? This is the equal and opposite approach so far.

The other additions were really nice but they messed up the auction so bad I’d rather have all the 2006 stuff in the caverns with the old auction scene.

Here's something nice I can say about Ms. Irvine...

She clearly loves Disneyland and has a passion to see it succeed! We may criticize her design choices, but I think a valid point in her defense is that we likely have no idea how she manages idiotic mandates from Burbank/Anaheim execs who want to see the Anaheim property be "More Relevant, More Disney!", along with any capital expenditure proving in a PowerPoint that it will have "Instagrammable Moments".

This lady probably has to walk a very narrow career tightrope.

And after decades of walking that tightrope, I bet if you got her with a glass of wine in her hand she would have some very dishy and funny stories to tell!

Thanks for sharing something positive.

I know some choices can be pinned on imagineers, but I also do believe many often try to make the most/best of whatever hands they are dealt.

If it were a mere book report ride, I suppose.

Trying to retell a story in 8% of its run time has been and will always be a silly idea. It’s why Peter Pan is about the Flight to Neverland, Snow White was about the Witch, and most importantly, why rides like Pinocchio and Little Mermaid fail.

The only two book reports that worked were Pooh and the ride that can’t be named, and that’s because their source “film” is a story that only runs for around 20 minutes.

Mine Train’s story is about the scene with the Dwarfs working in the mine and returning home. It’s a simple part of the movie they can tell in an isolated 4 minutes, and it works. Now they’re trying to tell the full movie in 3?

This requires the knowledge of the film going in. But I suppose you can’t really call yourself a Disney fan if you haven’t watched Snow White.

Do you “bet”, or do you “know”?

To be fair, it wasn't until 1994 that you could watch it whenever you wanted. You had to wait for a theatrical re-release.

Even those first 2 home video releases in 1994 and 2001 were in print for only a short period of time.

Now with Disney+, there's no excuse. :p

Pinocchio fail? Pinocchio is my favourite FL Darkride.

What is the ride that can't be named?
