A big part of vaccination is to stop vectors of spread. That's why grocery workers and other frontline workers are in the top tiers. If they were to just go by age they would be letting the virus continue to spread in these among frontline workers and the high amount of people they come in contact with. Age obviously should be a top priority, but with the amount of vaccines currently available, it makes sense to also curb community spread.

Most supermarket workers are under age 50. That's where the survival rate is 99.97% and those under 50 who do die have existing co-morbidities and are sickly.

Just go by age. It's been very clear since last winter that this virus kills mostly the elderly and infirm.

For example, over 40% of Covid deaths have been in nursing home residents, which make up only 1% of the American population.

Think of that. 1% of the American population (elderly and infirm nursing home residents) were 40% of the deaths.

The bagboy at the supermarket will survive Covid, but the 86 year old infirm lady in the nursing home won't.

Apparently it's more important for a state prisoner to get the shot before me, because all I did was obey the law and pay my taxes for decades and decades. But a 30 year old scumbag in state prison is ranked higher than a law-abiding, tax-paying, lifelong good citizen. In Sacramento, this makes perfect sense.

I understand the frustration, or at least I believe I do. In my mind, I should be higher up in the line because health. But I think the prisoner slot in the line has to do with the density of prison population in an enclosed facility with antiquated ventilation systems not yet upgraded to the new Covid/viral filtering standards. These people are at high risk and many of them will be out circulating among the rest of us soon enough.

It's a matter of trying to dampen the spreading fire at the hot spots. Not a class issue pitting your "scumbags" against the rest of us.

I would start with Nursing Homes.

Vaccinate anyone living (Mostly elderly, but there are others, heck, I was in one 4 years ago due to my coma), and those who work in one.

Then start with age groups.

Over 80 is at the top, then 70 and above, 60 and above, and finally 50 and over.

Then everyone else, in whatever order folks come up with, teachers, etc....

I see your point, however not everyone in that age bracket will be willing to get the vaccine. If survival is the ultimate goal, then stopping the spread by prioritizing bagboy will prevent him from spreading it from to someone who is unwilling to be vaccinated.

Who woulda thunk it? Disneyland closed for over a year, and then used as a vaccine distribution site.

But for those not in California, all Californians have been ranked by age, lifestyle choices, and career to determine who gets a vaccine and when. There are three Phases, with Phases broken down further into Sub-Phases (1A, 1B, 1C, etc.), and then each Sub-Phase from 1B onward is broken down into Tiers. So you could be in Phase 1B, Tier Two, or you could be in Phase 2A, Tier Three, etc., etc.)

The Phases, Sub-Phases, and Tiers were explained in a concise 2 and one half hour long press conference given by Governor Newsom earlier today. A local radio host said listening to the audiobook of War & Peace would have been breezier and easier.

California is currently in Phase 1A - Tier One, and it is hoped that Phase 1B - Tier One can begin by the end of the month.

The Phase, Sub-Phase and Tiers of who will be able to be vaccinated at the Disneyland vaccination site is as such;

Phase 1A - Tier One
  • Health Care Workers
  • Workers and Residents of Nursing Homes
Phase 1B - Tier One
  • People 75 and older
  • Education Workers (teachers, daycare workers, etc.)
  • Emergency Services Workers
  • Food & Agriculture Workers (farmers, grocery store workers)
Phase 1B - Tier Two
  • People 65 and older who have underlying co-morbidities (obesity, lung disease, heart disease, diabetes)
  • Transportation & Logistics Workers (bus drivers, railroad engineers, truck drivers, trucking dispatchers)
  • Industrial, Residential & Commercial Workers (the news made a point of saying this one was very vague)
  • Critical Manufacturing Workers (whatever you think "critical" means, according to the news)
  • State Prisoners & City/County Jail Inmates
  • Homeless People
Phase 1C - Tier One
  • Anyone 50 and older
  • Anyone 16 to 49 who have underlying co-morbidities (obesity, lung disease, heart disease, diabetes)
  • Waste Management & Water Workers (trashmen, water purification plant workers)
  • Defense, Chemical, Energy Workers (military, DuPont employees, Edison employees)
  • Communications & IT Workers (Bell System employees, Best Buy Geek Squad)
  • Financial Services & Government Workers (bank tellers, bureaucrats, politicians)
  • Community Service Groups (the media made another point about this category being very vague/unknown)
Phase 2 with it's various Sub-Phases and Tiers has not been released yet. Sacramento is working on it.

But it is assumed that Phase 2 later this year will break down the remaining Californians further into age groups, lifestyle choices, and professions that will guide them on when they can get the vaccine.
Reminds me of the class system on the Titanic. What could go wrong?

Not every bagger will want to get vaccinated.

Start at the top, if they opt out, they understand the risk. Heck, my 90 year old Uncle is out and about, volunteering, etc. He isn't one to just stay in the house. But he understand the risks now. But is a lot happier doing his things, socializing, etc. And he knows his life left on earth is running out, with or without COVID.

Wow this is great news! Although we still have a looooong way to go, light is at the end of the tunnel. President Biden is saying they hope to have 100 million doses in the first 100 days of his administration. I'll see it when I believe it, but it can't be as bad as it is now. :(

Anyway, this will probably be a great spot to do something like this. I suspect when it's mine turn it will probably be summer. At this point, I've gotten VERY patient lol.

Sure. But let's worry about the bagboy after everyone over the age of 65 has had the chance to get the vaccine. The older folks are the people who are dying when the bagboy infects their groceries, not the 30 year old customer next in line.

This is super simple Science & Data. Covid kills old people at a much higher rate than middle-aged people, and at an astronomically higher rate than young people. So vaccinate the oldest folks first, and then work down into the lower age groups; 75 and Up, 65 and Up, 55 and Up, etc., etc. until people stop dying and Disneyland reopens.

It depends much more on what state you live in, not on who is in the White House. The Trump Administration already laid the groundwork months ago in 2020 with Operation Light Speed, now it's up to the states to carry the ball over the finish line.

The news said today that California was the 46th worst state for vaccine distribution.

Nowhere to go but up for the Golden State!

That's a healthy outlook.

It fascinates me how so many young people apparently think that all old people must live forever, or else something is wrong. And with Covid, they say it out loud. Uh.... I hate to break it to you kids, but we all die.

Every single one of us. Dead. Especially when we get old. ⚰️

Heck, I got to the finish line, and got rejected 4 years ago. Came out of the coma with a second chance of Life, but I know it was just an extension, and I will make it over the finish life. I was at the bedside of both my father and mother when they passed.

But I can count multiple times where I got lucky and didn't die, such as in driving, a flight, etc.

Heck, I will keep on living, or Die trying!

This is basically what is happening. The only change is they want to make sure that when the vaccines currently available are thawed (both Pfizer and Modera vaccines require ultra cold storage) that they are ALL used and none are wasted because they can't be refrozen. That is why they expanded out to include other groups and do it based on highest potential transmission rate. A 19yr old front-line worker or someone that works in education are more likely they spread COVID to others than someone 50 yrs old who stays home and only goes to the store once a week. The whole point is to get as many vaccine doses into the arms of people now to get the transmission rate as low as possible as quick as possible and get things back to normal.

I know you have very strong opinions about this topic. But what CA is doing is very close to what the CDC recommends for phased distribution.

Things will be slightly different once the J&J vaccine is approved since it doesn't require ultra cold storage. That is when things will kick into high gear and all phases will likely be open. This will why them ramping up now for mass distribution is good.

KTLA has its helicopter over the Bullseye Lot (Former K CM Lot). 14 tents are set up there.

Hate to burst your bubble, but those tiers are based on CDC guidelines and are generally consistent across the country.

One more photo.

So we have Katella at the bottom. Going left to right. The World Mark, Clementine Street and AGW/Cheesecake Factory/JW Marriott.

The driveway into Bullseye is at the bottom (Old KCML main entrance). You will make an immediate left, then park on the right side, or if needed at the top (forgot what they call that lot, Jessie or Buzz Lightyear)). Then check in at the first 4 tents on the left, and the actual shot in the 10 tents on the right (closest to Haster).

Then exit onto Harbor at Convention Way, normally the main entrance to Toy Story.
