News Disneyland Resort Permits

One more thought, what do the DtD Tenants think about a possible change? One of the reasons that the House of Blues relocated was due to parking issues and locals. If you make locals go through security just to shop at places like Build a Bear (only nearby option) or one of the restaurants, or even the movie theaters. I think the "hassle" of the security check would keep more locals from going to DtD and opt for many of the other options nearby.

EDITED to add - And what about runDisney events and the CHOC Walk, both use DtD as part of their course, and a security checkpoint would be an issue dealing with the large groups trying to get back to the Mickey & Friends and northern DtD parking, where the finish line and support areas are (such as sponsor booths, handing out completion items, etc. Currently they use the CM gate next to the La Brea Bakery and Soarin' to access DtD,which is out of the current security zone.

Once again, this is just Blue Sky talk, anything is possible if you spend enough money, but Disney tends to prefer to look for the lower cost options....

More thoughts near the Mickey & Friends Tram drop off next to World of Disney, you have the Picnic area and the lockers that can be used with a security check (designed for large food and drink items), and then we have La Brea Bakery, who might not want to be placed inside the "Parks Security" area.

The permanent Guest Relations booth outside Security could be removed as it is hardly used, but to keep a large area for those trying to go through security, including the Tram users, and keeping the Picnic area and the La Brea Bakery access, there isn't much to do, but to do a multi-stage project, where you take a tent or two down and replace it with a permanent structure, and then repeat it a couple more times.so you can keep the area open but still upgrade.

The other security area that needs some serious attention is the GCH entrance to DCA, it gets so backed up in the morning, they need to figure something out, but due to the Hotel building, you can't expand the hallway from the Pool area to the park. Basically the options is to expand the area east of the building and move the turnstiles and security check area closer to GRR, or look at the Whitewater snacks outdoor area, and design something that uses the area and current emergency exit from DCA.

So based on the Blue Sky ideas, you would end up with 5 security checks area, the two mentioned above, The DtD Monorail station, the new one as part of the Eastern Gateway and Pedestrian bridge, and then a small one near the costuming building for the Toy Story Buses, the ADA shuttle from Manchester, and the few guests that would use the Manchester Street crossing over Harbor to enter the park.

But to try and deal with security checks for hotel guests, or those making purchases at DtD is very impractical. For example, a Disney Hotel guest who walks to Anaheim GardenWalk, and makes purchases (or other nearby things) and have items like food, glass and alcohol have to wait at Security on the east side, and then wait for a CM to become available to escort them through the secure area to West side security and DtD..

Well, it is used for staging for the Half Marathons and related races that runDisney offers.
I've done countless DLR runDisney events, and that area isn't used for any of the actual event space (though it may be used for storage in the days/weeks before). Years ago the 5K course began in the tram plaza, but that route hasn't been used in 5+ years. The overwhelming majority of the event staging space is in the Lilo lot and in the streets themselves.

I've also never seen them remove something as permanent as the hedges for one of these events. Especially at DLR, they try to minimalize the impact on the rest of the resort, often to the detriment of the event itself. I suspect this is the start of something a little more permanent

I don't see how that would be any different than the current post-race mess they have, where the overwhelming majority of runners must cross through park security to get to the buses (highly encouraged in all event publications due to traffic issues) along Harbor Blvd when coming from the Lilo or Simba lot staging areas. The courses that go through DTD proper (rather than just along Downtown Drive) are a crowdflow mess to begin with, so keeping some spectators outside the secure zone may be a blessing

I also can't see events that occupy 13 days a year making a huge impact on permanent infrastructure changes to the resort like this
Once again, this is just Blue Sky talk, anything is possible if you spend enough money, but Disney tends to prefer to look for the lower cost options....
Here's a quick mock-up I did showing what an enlarged plaza with security could look like. The tram route is red, landscaping/buffer is green, plaza edges in blue, and fencing/security checkpoint in yellow. This allows them plenty of space for queuing and screening, leaves a sliver of the Pinocchio lot for tram storage (and the new maintenance facility), and channelizes guest flow into a more orderly progression than the current setup. One loading zone is designated for exiting with 3 for boarding (far more capacity than is needed given their lousy operations, but matches existing), but at peak times additional spots could be for exiting, with guests leaving through gates near the checkpoint

I design transit plazas like this professionally, and I can't imagine something like this could possibly cost over $10M (realistically closer to $6M, but we all know how bad Disney is at controlling costs). Given Disney's commitment to the City, that's chump change at this point. It's also a minor cost compared to the east portal and parking garage, but would be a big step forward for opening up the resort and creating more cohesion once inside

Furthermore, this is in line with the work that's currently going on in WDW, where they are moving most of the MK security to TTC and the (monorail/boat) hotels. There will still be a (relocated) security checkpoint for the buses, but most of the security will be moved far away from the park entrance. The other parks will also be redoing their security checkpoints, but those details are less clear at this time (though would likely put the Epcot monorail station in the 'clean' zone)

And a BowlMor at AGW. I can't imagine that the area is so starved for upscale bowling that a Splitsville is seen as a must-have for DTD

Universal CityWalk in Hollywood had a Jillian's, which had bowling, an arcade and dining, but closed down a year or two ago, so not a big popular draw for a place similar to DtD.

We also have Round1 Entertainment at the Main Place Mall nearby that offers the same basic format including bowling.

Guess I should place a disclosure, I am a partner in Irvine Lanes, so have some inside knowledge of the industry.

I guess we don't need to be too concerned with this until there's a Level 3 of the Parking Structure, but it's good to know they will be there. Chargepoint seems to show 64 charging stations in the M&F structure. Is that correct?

Maybe they're taking the water tower from Hollywoodland

They have done a lot of special things in front of "iasw" for New Year's Eve, including "live" remotes for the ABC special, when they did 9 PM fireworks, but they also have done a special dancing area, with a DJ.

Of course, they have to start building it on the busiest week of the year.....

^^New Year's Eve?

I alternate every year between spending New Year's Eve with a small group of friends at home drinking cocktails and watching Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin on CNN, or twisting the night away at a huge party wearing a plaid silk dinner jacket and dodging flying champagne corks. I never spend New Year's Eve at Disneyland. But I seem to remember that Disneyland has a big stage set up in front of Small World on New Year's Eve with a local DJ or some such musical act to entertain the crowd.

An earlier permit for work in DTD was revised. It previously said:
