Disneyland Resort - New Entry Gates Incoming?

Problem will be if, like the new DCA entrance gates they tested and subsequently removed a few months ago, the new process to get in takes longer than the current one.

Hopefully they fixed the issues they encountered in that test.

Disney, seriously, what are you doing?

Between this, the HM shop, the big blue Cosmic Rewind box and the island tower at the Polynesian it appears that Disney doesn’t care a whole lot about what things look like on the outside anymore as long as the inside is nice/ fun, or it’s more functional or they can make more money. I can live with the far left and far left right but the one in the middle is not acceptable. Just plopping the digital sign in front of the two detailed roof vents (or whatever they re supposed to be) like that? Thematic integrity seems to be a concession they are more than willing to make these days. The below though just doesn’t make sense on any level. Just amateur hour and no attention to detail.

It should be hanging below, not resting above. Such a simple fix in the design process.

Right, the ones at DCA are hanging below and look fine. I’m guessing there wasn’t enough clearance on the DL side? And if they had “no choice” but to put them up there then they needed to remove those roof vents. Or you know, just leave it like it was with the old entrance/ exit signage.

I was at Disneyland yesterday and they had the new entry gates open for use.

It was supposed to begin use today but they opened it 1 day early.

I'm also guessing its a clearance thing, probably also for easier visibility, I'm sure a lot of function over form decisions are made because of similar things.

I can only imagine the comments here and other places if they had removed the faux roof vents, or god-forbid demoed the entire entry gate and rebuilt it, just to put up a new sign.

IMO there are only three acceptable options here and they didn’t go with any of the 3.

1. Put it underneath. If no clearance…
2. Remove the faux vents. If that’s not feasible…
3. Leave the old signage that worked for decades.

I'm guessing option 1 and 3 were a no-go for a variety of reasons, and option 2 remains to be see if over time they decide to do that as they redo the rest. Or some other other 4th option that we're not thinking of such as smaller faux vents that are re-positioned maybe on either side of the sign.

I’m hoping for the 4th or 5th option. That they left the vents there as whatever the future fix is won’t block the vents but as it stands I think it’s unacceptable for Disney.

I am going to need you to pick a lane. You can either be the grass inspector, or the entry sign detective, but not both.

Lol I’m both. Don’t forget the Planter Police. But in this case I’m just a dude with eyes. My brain just can’t accept the digital sign being plopped in front of those roof features.

I agree they look very out of place being on top instead of the bottom. I think it looks bad and I don't defend it in any way, but here might be some objective reasons:

1. Maybe not just clearance but now with all the extra electronics could have also been a weight issue where they didn't have anything structurally solid enough in the overhang to safely hold it. I'm not a structural engineer, but maybe they were worried about it falling on someone's head.

2. Probably would have been a lot of extra work cutting them out and re-shingling and fixing the facade and Disney isn't about that. That's probably an excuse since they just re-shingled the train station, but people were also already complaining about how much time this took.

3. I'm kind of wondering if they went digital simply because CMs were tired of spinning the sign or if they are planning to display more than just the typical "Entrance" and "Exit Only" wording......basically have more options whatever that may be.

So I guess we'll see if they are functionally better or if it's a change simply due to laziness and pinching pennies.

I was guessing possibly a Magic Key only entrance from time-to-time, I vaguely recall they tried it at least once before long ago with APs.

And I know they were looking at doing it again post-COVID -

Other than Magic Key Only they can also do other things like Magicband Only or Re-Entry Only or Non-Stroller Only to dedicate some lanes to being faster to get through. They probably won't, but they digital signs opens things up to several possibilities.
