I could imagine that happening under the radar so to speak..The Haunted Mansion's pet cemetery is filled with actual pets of imagineers.
From my understanding, the animatronic birds reused the same skins as their predecessors.Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room originally used a live bird cast. When Walt realized he'd never be able to make them talk as he envisioned, he hastily had his Imagineers create bird-sized Audio-Animatronics figures. Legend says some Guests still can't tell the difference.

On September 8th, 1955, only 52 days after the opening of Disneyland on July 18th, the One Millionth ticket was sold, which matched the 20,000 a day limit Walt Disney placed on ticket sales to prevent overcrowding. So basically over 50 days of sell out crowds. Pretty impressive start.
