disneyland or disneyworld

Can anyone help me decide? I am going on a RTW trip that will finish in June next year in California. As I am in the states, my parents (age 50) and my nephew (aged 6) want to come out from the UK and meet me there for us all to take my nephew to see Disney - they are going to come out for about 10 days to 2 weeks and would like to spend about 5 days in theme parks for my nephew, then move to the beach for 5 days to relax - I need to decide whether we should go to Disneyland or Disneyworld, we will already be in California so Disneyland makes more sense and there's more outside of Disney that we'd like to see there, but Disneyworld does look much more fun - can anyone help with suggestions on where they'd recommend?

p.s. This is my parents and nephew's first trip to the states so I'd like it to be memorable!

not that i've ever been to disneyland..other than seeing it in pics...it looks nice and all , but i just love disneyworld....there is so much to see and do there ....its like your in your own little world there..from the magic kingdom to the water parks to all the fabulous different themed resorts..my vote goes towards disneyworld....but already being in cali..i understand it being easier to go to disneyland,

Having done both, I can tell you that there are definite advantages and drawbacks to both. My first suggestion is to poke around these forums a bit since this has been debated a lot and you're sure to find a lot of opinions. My family always tells people who ask that if you have 3 or 4 days and want a more relaxed pace go to Disneyland. If you have a week or more and like the high drama and excitement of a place you can never see all of, go to WDW. Personally, if I were already in California (LOVE the weather!), had a 6 year old with me AND my parents...I'd probably stick with Disneyland since it is very "do-able" (including California Adventure) in the time frame you've got.

While I would choose WDW as it has much more to offer, I would not miss out on the chance to see DL. It has just been given a great extreme makeover, has some special touches that the Magic Kingdom does not have in Florida, and after all IS the original. I would say stay in California and plan on a two day visit. Save WDW for a visit all its own.

I can finally say I have been to both- I did DisneyLand/California Adventure in 1 day (although I didn't go on "all" the rides- just the ones I really wanted to) I could never do that at Disney World. Someone said that there are drawbacks and advantages to each one and that is true. Disneyland has Mr. Toad's wild ride and some other rides that Disney World does not. (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Storybook land boat ride, just to name a few) I didn't get to see the fireworks at Disney Land, but the ones at WDW are fantastic! Keep in mind that this is the 50th Celebration of Disneyland so alot has been "done up" in grand style there. I would love to see what all has been done. Since you would be in California, it would make the most sense to go to Disneyland rather than go to Florida to WDW. You can do almost everything you want in 2-3 days at Disneyland and then get to spend some time on the beach or whatever else you want to do.

I love WDW, but when I get the opportunity to go to DL (which has only been once) I love to see the "Original" :)
