For several reasons. I think that it's a bit premature given that we still have a ways to go before enough people have been vaccinated. And even though I'm protected against serious illness, there are still reports of people contracting the virus after being vaccinated.
California has a decent vaccination percentage, but even we are not at 50% yet. And with people coming from other states, that kind of becomes meaningless anyways.
My biggest concern are the variants. The more the virus is spreading, even if it is amongst mainly the unvaccinated, the greater chance a variant will come along that's more resistant to the vaccine efficacy.
Anyways, it just feels like everything happening so fast, and all at once, is a bit worrisome. And it's not that I feel all the restrictions need to be permanent. Not that at all. I worry that dropping every single restriction, is going to result in fewer people feeling the need to get vaccinated, and that would be a bad thing. I would have expected Disney to keep the mask requirement indoors, either in queues or on rides. But it is what it is.
Honestly, I guess wearing them indoors does not bother me too much. I can see the issue in the outdoor summer heat, but I've never understood all the outrage about wearing them in general. Seemed like a small price to pay to keep myself and others safe, and get to the point where we could achieve herd immunity, and get back to normal. Hopefully we're not spiking the football at the 10 yard line. Bottom line is I myself will continue wearing them indoors for the time being, and in crowded situations, where I'm literally surrounded by lots of people, even if that's outdoors.
