Disneyland has a new Fantasmic dragon...

Looks very cool! I do like the mountain stage set-up at DHS, but hopefully once they work out the kinks with the new dragon (possibly get a bit more movement going on? In the video I saw the head was nowhere near the water when it was supposed to light it on fire) they can think about finding a way to bring one to WDW! Not sure how exactly, I imagine they'd have to make some major adjustments to the stage.

In Florida, they now close the gates about an hour before showtime most nights -- so you would lose a large part of your day just to get a seat. I really hate the fact that Fantasmic is such a difficult event to attend.[/QUOTE]
Yes,:hammer: we were there on sept. 10 and it was a mess, people pushing, babies crying:cry:, waited 1.5 hours before gates open, cm were telling us to come back 15 mins. prior to show, thank god we did not, otherwise we would of missed it.

i think it would be awsome to get one at WDW but i think that they should get a chernabog one. They already have the giant mountain in the center of the stage and you could get a murphy if chernabog's too complex

I worked in costuming at Fantasmic at WDW for a year, so I can sorta explain why in some of the videos the characters appear to not be folloeing the choreography.

In the videos you posted, you might have noticed that the characters didn't have their banners to wave like they usually do. They dont have the banners on nights when its really windy or if there's a problem with one of the banners, either Beast gives up his to the character who doesnt have one or no one has a banner. When its Banner 101, they still move around the boat on like normal, and are supposed to be waving, but some of the characters get really into it & start dancing like crazy.

Interesting, thanks for clearing that up. I did notice the missing banners.. curious about how the wind affects the banner routine  regardless, I still feel there should be a cap when it comes to the over-the-top dancing.

Im not exactly sure about how the wind affects the banners. All I know is that on nights when it was really windy, they wouldnt use the banners.

And I'm still undecided on the new dragon. Again, I'm only going by vids, but I agree that its a bit cartoony and slow at the moment. As things are adjusted, hopefully some quicker and more expansive movements can be incorporated.
Honestly, the only problem I have with him is the "death" He's screaming and all, but not moving. And the lasers dance on his belly.:lookaroun:lol: That's it. Looks kinda cheap.

There were plans for Orlando to get a Murphy, now it is all quiet.

Personally I`m glad.
Really? Why? You don't like the Dragon, or the cost?

Personally? It`s too cute. It just sits there, hardly animated and over-lit. Orlandos is more menacing, more looming and the movement (following Mickey and rearing up) is more fluid and wider ranging. Plus our lighting seems to be better now all the fibre optics are working again. Give DHS the LED eyes and the working flamejet and it would be perfect. IMHO.

You gotta admit that it looks JUST like the movie version...:o

Valid reasons, though. I just wish it looked bigger. It looks kinda skinny.

I guess no one liked my idea of not having Maleficent in the finale and instead Ursula.... fine, have it your way *cries*

The dragon looks much better live than what you see on a video. And as I said before the movement is still being worked on.. it has been getting progressively better each week. It look incredible last Friday

Disneyland's old dragon was just embarrassing to look at during the end of it's run. The fog machines along the wings wouldn't always work properly and you could clearly see the inner workings of it.. the giant head-on-a-stick wasn't impressive at all. The dragon looked even worse if you were watching from the side angles.

That's my cue!

Say it with me now... life is not meant to be lived through YouTube.

Book a trip to Anaheim for the next D23 Expo and see it for yourself, as the new dragon in real life is an amazing improvement over the old head on a stick thing. You can also check out a little place called Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom.

Virgin Atlantic has great non-stop fares from London to LAX, and there's plenty of amazing hotel deals available in Anaheim. Come visit Disneyland USA and get it over with!

WDW's version has probably been begging and screaming for a refurb.

Honestly, the finale and some other stuff needs to be upgraded (they installed a new sound system in the summer, so we probably wont get more upgrades after that for a little while) but yeah we should get a Murphy for WDW, except if he's still gonna be pulled from inside the mountain, he'll have to be on a platform and not like the pillars like in DLR, and probably more bendable to fit in the mountain. And about the Steamboat Willie thing, totally agree with you, less shadowy than the Mark Twain. Though Steamboat Willie needs a paint job.

Disney World should be starting to work on the refurb while it's on limited shows a week. What do you guys think?
