Hello everyone! I have questions about the Disneyland Dining Plan. How does the dining plan work? And is it worth buying the dining plan?? I called Disney about this and they could not explain how it works after being transferred several times. Pleas Help!!

Do we even have a dining plan? If we do, I'm sure it's not worth it. Really all you do is walk into a restaurant and sit down. You don't have to call six months in advance like WDW.

This seems to come up occasionally from people who are visiting Disneyland for the first time.

My reaction is always... Disneyland has a Dining Plan??? Who knew?! o_O

At Disneyland, when you are hungry, you just go into a restaurant and have a meal.

If you want to eat at the Blue Bayou or Carthay Circle Restaurant, you should probably make a reservation in advance by calling (714) 781-DINE. I sometimes make reservations through the DINE phone line for Catal or Ralph Brennan's or Napa Rose (all outside the parks in DTD or Grand Californiana) if I am planning on eating at those places on a weekend.

The short answer is yes, Disneyland does have a dining plan and no, it will not save you a dime. If anything it will cost you more. The dining plan at Disneyland is a set of prepaid vouchers that carry a monetary value (eg $20, $50, etc) that can only be used at Disney restaurants. The kicker is you do not get change. If your meal is $43.75 you have to give them a $50 voucher making your $43.75 meal cost $50.

I knew they had a dining plan but had no idea it worked this way. What the heck is the point then?

There is no point, which is why it's worthless. I wouldn't waste a dime on it.

Yeah, that sounds really dumb. No wonder we never hear about it.

Disneyland Dining Plan? I think that's just calling to make a lunch reservation at the Blue Bayou, and maybe dinner at Carthay Circle or Napa Rose, and then just eating wherever you want whenever you want. There's your dining plan.

Exactly. And sometimes you don't have to call for Blue Bayou. They should just get rid of this plan, as I'm sure no one buys these vouchers.

DL's dining plan is more like prepaying with a chance of overpaying. Some people really like knowing everything is paid for before they arrive, I guess. Like Yoda said, if your dinner bill is $43.75 and you pay with a $50 voucher then you lose. If your bill is $53.75 and you pay with the $50 voucher you still have to make up the difference out of pocket. There is no advantage to using their dining plan. Better to do some homework and pay as you go.
