Disneyland cuts ties with McDonald's

Apparently McDonald's isn't leaving WDW anytime soon. The OC Register ran an article last week about McDonald's leaving Disneyland, and it included this quote from a McDonald's spokeswoman:
Yes, McDonald’s is leaving because of the remodel, said spokeswoman Danya Proud. But: “It is also important to note that we continue to have a relationship with Disney — that includes providing foodservice at Walt Disney World.”

I have no insider information and am basing this on nothing more than my own thoughts. With that said, I'd be willing to wager that McDonald's items at Walt Disney World are on borrowed time.

The whole deal with McDonald's began to unravel well over a year ago when the two decided that McDonald's would no longer exclusively market Walt Disney Pictures.

Now the food items are being shown the door at Disneyland. The various parts of the contract are probably expiring one at a time and I'm sure WDW will follow suit.

Just give it time.

I think that it's a combination of PC and PR.

Yes, the tide is turning against unhealthy foods. I'm sure that's a reason.

Has anyone thought that it's not just a coincednce that it's happening only in California? California has a reputation for being more health conscious than anywhere else. Maybe Disney sees McD's as being a type of "fall guy"? They get rid of McD's, so it takes the heat off of their food for a bit. After all, the big controversy in trans fat and fast food restaurants tends to revolve around McD's.

Or it could be somthing completely different. Wal-Mart used to put McD's into most of their supercenters (instead of the snack bar). Then they decided to put Subways in, instead. The publicized reason was for health reasons. One of the not-so-public reasons was that McD's consistently had problems with health code violations throught the supercenters...

Strawman...unless of course you fell the exact same way about Dole, Coca Cola, Kodak, etc, etc...

Never thought about it that way before...

I guess it doesn't make much sense, but I agree that the golden arches detract moreso than Dole or Coca Cola. Although Kodak is up there with McDonald's. I would say that maybe it's because McDonald's is publicized more? But how can you get more publicity than Coke?

Sometimes I think you people overreact to the stupidest things. Do you really believe that Disney's stated reason is the actual reason? I'm sure there are a slew of reasons for Disney getting rid of McDonald's, and I seriously doubt the lack of healthy food is one of the top reasons. It's very easily the PR reason (such as when politicians retire to spend time with their family...which is 9 out 10 times NOT the real reason). They are getting rid of McDonald's. Get over it. Why anyone eats McDonald's anywhere is beyond me...just walking past one makes me naseous.

You either can't read, or you're too lazy to read the whole post. Because I very specifically said that I don't think I have ever eaten at any McDonalds on Disney propert and that I don't care if McDonald's has any locations on property or not. For all I care, they can get rid of the fry cart in Frontierland, the McDonald's in Canada in World Showcase and any other place on property that has any McDonald's product. I wouldn't lose one bit of sleep over it.

What I object to is the reason...if indeed that is the reason. Because I don't like the long term implications of it if, indeed, they are getting rid of it for health reasons. Because if they were to pursue that to its logical conclusion, then at some point down the road as the health craze gains more and more momentum, (say, 10, 15, 20, 30 years), we may be eating nothing but health food all over the WDW resort. That's my objection. If Disney gets rid of McDonalds because they don't think the Golden Arches go along with the AdventureLand theme or the FrontierLand theme, then more power to 'em. Or if they just don't think it's making sufficient profits for them, then fine. I just don't want them to get rid of it for health reasons for the reasons I stated.

Thank God.

Hopefully they will get rid of that crap at Disney World as well. I don't understand why someone would eat McDonalds at DW when there is one less than a mile from their home. And pay Disney prices for that slop on top of it.

I would rather eat raw liver.

LOL... This is almost as bad as the old K-Mart stigma.

No one ever shops there, yet the parking lots are always full:shrug:...

 I understand what you mean but that most certainly isn't a straw man. A straw man fallacy occurs when someone intentionally misrepresents or mistates an opponent's view to strengthen their own. Maybe you were thinking of the "cherry picking" fallacy where someone picks one part of the problem to place all the blame on?

Actually, it can also refer to someone taking the original view or opinion, creating their own imatation of the origianl, and then knocking down the imatation. That is what's being done.

What? How exactly is that what is being done by that statement? The person just stated an opinion and wasn't even refuting anything. A straw man needs an original argument to twist in the first place. meh... this has nothing to do with the topic at hand so I should just drop it. haha.

I found it strange there were so many people gulping down McDonalds fries at AK. You can get that stuff anywhere right? While they probably won't replace it with healthier options...they could. I see no point getting upset over this, and as someone else said, McDonalds being there kinda just looks wierd.

I find it funny that people are complaining about McDonalds being in the parks when in all actuality McDonalds burgers are HEALTHIER than most of the burgers served on Disney Property.

I personally think that McDonalds fries taste much better than any of the french fries on property. (when they are hot and fresh out of the fryer that is)

Because not everyone had McD's close to their homes. If you come from other parts of the world, they tend only to have McD's in the big cities not in suburbs.

Also, it is a recognizable item and if a parent is trying to get a kid to eat something anything, they usually can get them to eat McD's fries.

I like McD's and eat there once in a while and only wish they had a full CS menu in AK of McD's as I would then have a choice of good CS food in AK. The food in AK stinks, there is nothing really to eat there.
