^ yeah I was planning on heading down there yesterday as well, but with the parks closing earlier there was no point in going anymore.

It's been raining all morning with lightning/thunder and apparently there was a tornado warning issued for Orange County. Last I heard it was cancelled a little while ago.

It's pretty miserable outside at my house (north San Diego county). Pouring rain and severe winds. I'm tired of picking up my lawn furniture over and over again. :hammer:

I apologize because this weather is completely my fault. I spent all of last week picking on everyone throughout the rest of the country for their freezing temps and snow and brought this on myself.:lookaroun

Edit: Just had my TV interrupted by a tornado warning.

Which begs the question: Why is this enough to close the parks? Are the California parks less equipped to deal with runoff at a structural level (Florida being famous for its porous surfaces), or is this really as silly as it seems to me? :veryconfu
In short the answerer to your question would be yes. No one is SoCal is use to rain of that magnitude. It would be the along the lines of WDW getting about 6" of snow. The place would simply shut down.

Yeah, the Main Street photos have surprised me a bit. Either the parks just don't have the infrastructure to get rid of the water, or this is a little more of a severe storm than I figured at first.

A little of both. As a general rule you design for a realistic worse case but there are times when mother nature deals you out something past that. About all you can do is hang on and mop up when it is over.

There was a torential downpour in central OC on Tuesday from about 1:00 PM to 1:20 PM. That picture of the water on Main Street was taken just after that. It was the heaviest rain I've ever seen in SoCal, ever.

Knott's Berry Farm has been closed for three consecutive days now. With more rain moving in on Thursday morning, I'm sure they will go for a fourth day of total park closure. That's very sad, and it makes you wonder how financially healthy Knott's is if they shut down the entire park for days on end due to rain.

Disneyland Resort is closing both parks early tonight for the second time in a week because of the weather.

Disneyland is set to clear out at 6 p.m., two hours earlier than scheduled. Disney’s California Adventure is planning to shut down at 5 p.m., one hour early.

“Current weather conditions do not allow us to provide the best possible experience for Guests, therefore operating hours will be adjusted,” said Suzi Brown, a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman in a prepared statement.

On Monday, Disney parks also shut down early — a rare occurrence that last happened more than a year ago.

Knott’s Berry Farm is closed today for the third time in a week. The Buena Park theme park also closed early on Tuesday.
