Disneyland and Disney World lay off 28,000 employees amid pandemic struggles - OCR/SCNG

I think it was another thread where I mentioned this, but there is no way the Disneyland Resort would completely move. It is possible that DLR might close and they open a resort in another state. However, it would basically be an entirely new resort built from the ground up. You can't just move massive attractions like the Matterhorn. Some things might get reused like flat rides, but for the most part, it would be a completely different resort.

That name was familiar, and when I Googled her it all came flooding back.

No one wants to see anyone get laid off, but she'll be fine. She only looks about 45 years old, and she's a schmoozy Social Media middle manager. So I'm sure she'll bounce back and be Tweeting from the corporate account of Rice-A-Roni or Round-Up Bug Spray or Hyundai a few months from now.

That said, I'm impressed they are slashing the big names at the Disney Parks Blog. That outlet seems so vapid and fake, it can't be of any real use to anyone, can it? About it's only valid use is live-streaming the opening ceremonies for new lands or big new rides, but they shouldn't have to employ a whole wasteful office of cubicle drones in Celebration to do that every year or two.

The silver lining here is that Disney is slimming down a lot of things that desperately needed to be slimmed. If not eliminated.
Well, since I was just called a shill for the company, let me attack the real professional shills: DPB was and is a disgraceful mess.

So filled with blurgey articles about nothing. DPB declared stuff important to the Latino culture simply by labeling it for the family -- talk about systemic racism.

With Disney's actual Press Release page so often being behind the times in putting out... press releases and actual information, the DPB became the main source of official announcements about anything new... buried under all the blurge.

And when they advertised new stuff, they sometimes got it wrong. A few times they changed their blog when I emailed them about the wrong info, and sometimes they just left the wrong info up.

Back to the PR site: they recently made all their b-roll pics and video locked behind a press-only sign-in for whatever stupid reason. Then, they deleted all the old articles!! That. Is. Insane. That's erasing the record. But then again, I've caught them changing already released pressers without acknowledging the updates.

But, enough shilling for the company now, @Brer Oswald

You too?!? I thought that only happened to me. Have you gotten paid? I still don't have the phone number to Payroll, so if you get it, let me know please.

What a great reminder. I'd almost forgotten how offensive and creepy that whole "You Whites won't understand this, but Latinos are unique because they actually like spending time with their family" thing was on the Parks Blog. A classic piece of thinly veiled corporate bigotry from Sarah Domenech of the Parks Blog. #DisneyFamilia

Blurge is a great word. Jen Fickley-Baker should try adding that to her LinkedIn page, now that she needs to update it.

I'm sorry for your acquaintance. Must be terrifying for them right now.

Can we speculate on what the imagineer layoffs means for future, incomplete blueprint projects like Splash Mountain, Marvel Land Phase 2, etc.?
That’s a little insensitive...although I suppose it fits with the theme.

15 years? They aren't going to spend $2-4 Billion dollars, or more, to buy land elsewhere and rebuild the parks.

It's scary how many people believed the Uncle Walt's satire site about moving the parks. lol smh
I wanted to, just because billionaires move chateaus brick brick across continents lolol jk, i mean it would throw the history of the parks completely off but I low key wish they would though, you know they want to at this point.

What's the hypothetical length of time Disneyland would need to be closed for the company to just throw in the towel and sell off the land? I don't think it would happen- but eventually there just isn't money.

The rest of the Parks division isn't exactly making money right now with the significant reductions in capacity and decline in travel that is expected to last indefinitely.
The parks division has said they are making a profit right now, but we don't know how much, it could literally be a penny a year and still make the statement accurate.

As for how long, honestly, I don't think Disney would because of the history, so if something happened and they couldn't keep the land, it would likely go to the state.

It wouldn't be perfect, but it would be a start and make it clear to the state they won't ever get their hands on the property.

I don’t know if the official numbers have been made public yet, but DLR Attractions took a really big hit. I don’t know WDW’s numbers for attractions, but I think DL might be higher.

This is one of the few sets of layoffs that I feel comfortable saying the CA gov’t is significantly responsible for.

I imagine that a very large portion of the in park cast members are among those numbers, simply because the parks are closed (meaning there aren't jobs for them at the moment at all), and when they reopen they will be at reduced capacity on everything, meaning less workers that are needed- or even allowed in some places, and thus still no jobs for many of them.

Knowing that it is likely to be a long time before they can fully reopen to full capacity again, and a good chance it may be even longer before those numbers actually do come back, it's a cut that sucks but that they have to make.

Eventually those jobs will be opened up again and rehiring done, but it's going to be a long ways off, and more than likely many if not most of those workers will have moved on to other jobs.
