Since browsing these forums, I've always wanted to participate in an Imagineering challenge, but somehow never plucked up the courage. Time to fix that with this project...

I gotta say, what I'm seeing suggested thus far is pretty good!

Thanks! Do you have any fun ideas for this?

There's A lot that can be done since it's the whole property. Disneyland Park, and Second Gate, a third gate... waterparks... Downtown Disney Area, hotels... the list goes on :D!

We’re on the eve of the renaissance, and Disney would presumably be trying to revitalize their image anyway - what about Cartoon World? This was the concept that became Islands of Adventure. I believe Universal was developing it around this time, and a Disney version of it would be really fun to see. We could do a Silly Symphony Land, a proper Mickey land, maybe a darker ToonTown a la Roger Rabbit, with some modern touches of course, like The Little Mermaid.

I don’t know a ton about DLR’s land, but placing this over DCA’s footprint makes the most sense to me.
My mouth is watering at the possibilities here! Should we go with this for a gate, here's what I'm thinking thus far:
  • Either a Silly Symphony land or a permanent Disney Afternoon land would make for a good Seuss Landing equivalent
  • A Mickey land based on his neighborhood in the Floyd Gottfredson comics would be neat to see, especially if it came with an E-ticket that captures the same adventurous spirit as them. "The Perils of Mickey" marketing campaign was underway at a point during the early 1990s, after all
Here's what Disneyland was supposed to get. Maybe we can use this for this project.
  • The Young Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at the Big Thunder Ranch arena
  • Here Come the Muppets at Videopolis Theater (Fantasyland Theatre)
  • Mickey's Starland (which eventually became Toontown) featuring Muppet*Vision 3D and a Little Mermaid dark ride
  • Tomorrowland 2055 featuring Alien Encounter, Plectu's Fantastic Intergalactic Revue and a new Circle-Vision 360 (although the way it's described in the article, it basically sounds like Timekeeper)
  • Hollywoodland -- to be built in-between Tomorrowland and Main Street; featuring Dick Tracy's Crimestoppers, Toontown Trolley, Baby Herman's Runaway Buggy Ride, The Great Movie Ride and Superstar Television
But, if I may makes some suggestions, here's what I propose we could do with this.

First off, Indiana Jones Adventure > Young Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. Heck, maybe we could even do the original Lost Expedition concept!

Little Mermaid absolutely fits Fantasyland more than Toontown, so I propose we have it sit where the Hyperion hangar is in Architectural Guinea Pig's map design. That way, if we decide to scale back the Submarine lagoon, the castle could sit on the edge of it. I feel we should use the Fantasyland Theatre space for a different new ride. Maybe this is where we could put Pooh so it doesn't have to replace Country Bears.

TOMORROWLAND 2055 NEEDS TO BE A THING IN THIS PROJECT TIMELINE. THAT IS ALL.
I say we absolutely go through with the Lost Expedition! Ditto for the Fantasyland additions and 2055.

Hollywoodland would be better, I feel, for a second gate, should there be one that it would fit in. Maybe Muppet*Vision could go in it alongside (most of) the other five attractions listed?

Although I already said I liked the idea of a Disney take on Cartoon World, I wouldn't be lying if I said Toontown could have still been built where it was in this timeline

Idea for Gate 3: Historical Civilizations And Myths. It will have areas based on Imperial China, Mayans, the Inca, African civilizations, Greece/Rome, and Egypt.

This actually would be a really fun gate to connect to WESTCOT - like how retro Epcot had pavilions with Myth based attraction (Malestrom, etc.) but instead of going to an attraction, it connects to an entire park mythos area. Like a 7 Wonders of the World myth based situation.

That being said, I know we’re looking at a Discoveryland based water park… would the Italy/Rome/discoveryland oversaturate those themes a bit? :bored:

Excellent layout! We should really look at this for pathways connecting the two sides of the resort.

Love these ideas!

I agree… if we go fill on Cartoon World. I think Toontown would be a solid “Main Street” situation for that park.

If we do make a Discoveryland water park, we could call it Discovery Cove (or Discovery Bay)…oh wait, that might already be taken
(also we gotta have an aquatopia-like ride)
the water park would be themed to science fiction with some italian inspiration (da vinci/renaissance?)

There are ways around this such as having more emphasis on the fantastical elements via either clockpunk or steampunk genre as part of the overall narrative, or changing the setting to a different country like Spain.

Here's the layout:
China has Emperor Qin's Eternal Army, an interactive dark ride, and Wu Xing Palace, a madhouse. The Mayans will have the Mayan Coast water park. The Inca will have a replica of Machu Picchu with interactive elements. Africa will have an Anansi Ride and a Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters ride. Greece/Rome will have a boat ride through locations in Greek myths, and Egypt will have The Tomb of Anubis, a walkthrough haunt.

More ideas:
Indiana Jones expansion to Adventureland (I already made Raiders Square!)
Prydain from The Black Cauldron as a Fantasyland subsection
A Bayou expansion to New Orleans Square
A water based dark ride based on several world mythologies in Fantasyland
An expansion of The Haunted Mansion’s exit area with a well kept garden holding plants associated with the supernatural and a Crump-inspired menagerie of monsters from all over the world located in the catacombs underneath the mansion, all of which resemble the monster’s natural habitat.

Considering this thread sorta went silent for a moment, maybe a fun - and more streamlined - launching point for us could be just focusing on the original Disneyland Park? What improvements, renovations, and alternate directions could we take if we went back to 1991?

Here is map of Disneyland Park in 1991. Note the absence of Toontown, Indiana Jones, and much of present-day Tomorrowland.
