"Welcome to a kingdom of animals... real, ancient and imagined: a kingdom ruled by lions, dinosaurs and dragons; a kingdom of balance, harmony and survival; a kingdom we enter to share in the wonder, gaze at the beauty, thrill at the drama, and learn."

Michael D. Eisner, April 22, 1998

Personally, I could care less about what Eisner ever said. He was part of the problem. I would like to think Disney follows Walt's vision the best they can. They usually do a pretty good job.

But Animal Kingdom wasn't Walt's vision - it was Eisner's.

If it was Walt's vision they would have a CM chucking lemmings off Everest for your enjoyment.

Just curious, what is "the problem"? If it's change and growth- Walt was all for change and said so about DL on quite a few occasions. If the company doesn't grow it will die, or get bought and broken up. Fact of modern day business. The problem for a lot of folks amounts to 'change' once you get to the core of their issue.
If the problem is quality- I'll agree that it has slipped some, but compared to just about every other huge company it's still very, very good.

Reality... at Disney? haha

- Outer space inside of a mountain?
- Entering a grand mansion through the basement?
- Entering a boiler room/basement from a trap door in a library without going downstairs?
- A modern day record studio on a street stuck in the 1940s?
- Being shrunk down to the size of a Toy by entering a Pixar campus building?
- A room that has no windows and no doors when we just entered through a door?
- Prince Eric's oceanside castle in the middle of a forest and right next door to Belle's village?
- A European style castle at the end of a US main street?
- A dinosaur that is supposed to fit in our full time rover to travel back in time with us?
- A Pirates themed interative game that has a base that is clearly in Frontierland?

You need to use your Imagination as Figment would say.

I love all the people pointing out the obvious as far as reality and escapism. So you like Norway being taken over by Frozen? World Showcase is suppose to represent fact and reality.

Wow....Eisner was only a problem in his later years. Look at what was built during the Eisner years and tell me that again.

World Showcase is also another part of a THEME PARK. I don't mind it. The people that had anything to do with Frozen went to Norway for all their inspiration. So all of the design in the film...based on fact and reality. The ice princess...maybe not so much.

To an extent, but not exactly. If World Showcase is supposed to represent fact and reality, then you're telling me that the costumes of each pavilion are supposed to accurately represent the country? Why is it always Octoberfest in Germany? Is it always nightime in Mexico? Are Norwegians that far behind the times (Spirit of Norway film)? Even the architecture while based on reality is fantasized. Anyone who has been to Venice, Italy will tell you that the Italy pavilion is backwards/mirror image in some aspects.

But anyws, no we aren't ok with Frozen taking over Norway, but World Showcase isn't 100% fact or reality either.

As my parents were fond of saying, Morocco and Italy are terribly inaccurate because there isn't trash everywhere on the ground.

To your point, I've never understood what was expressly Canadian about the Canada pavilion. Aside from the castle-y looking building, the rest of it could be anywhere in the Pacific northwest.

Also, this thread has me really wondering if as long as Iger is in control, how much longer before Epcot is just the repository for Magic Kingdom overflow attractions, and by that, I mean things that they couldn't easily fit into MK (ie: Frozen ride). I hope that's not the case, but the pattern over recent years makes me think it.

I do think getting guest to buy more Park Hoppers or multi day tickets is part of the plan. Making MK guest want to go to Epcot is smart business on WDW's part. We always go to all 4 parks anyways so it won't effect us much but I can see it doing so for others.

First of all, unless the Frozen ride at Epcot brings improvement to the rest of the park do to it's prophet I'm not for it. Marvel doesn't belong in any of the parks and for the last... No company other then Lucas Film ran by George Lucas himself is worthy of Star Wars

Ignoring the rest, for the moment, George Lucas brought us the prequels and THIS abomination...

People LOVED the Knights of the Old Republic games, and guess what? Lucas didn't have any direct involvement. People are reacting very positively to Star Wars Rebels, and again, no Lucas.

  1. Arendelle is not a real place and doesn't belong in World Showcase. It's not in this world.
  2. Avatarland is not a real place and doesn't belong in Animal Kingdom. Those are not real animals.
  3. Hollywood Studios are not studios. You don't even have a backlot anymore. There are no productions scheduled ever.
I predict someday we'll see the friends statue gone and replaced by Mickey alone or the latest cash cow.

If this is a hangup for you, I hate to be the bearer of bad new. Most of WDW is not REAL. First, lets start with Mickey Mouse. There are no talking mice in the world and definitely none about 5 feet tall. Second, there are no fairies and princesses. If there were, you wouldn't have pictures with different people playing those characters. Third, Space Mountain doesn't take you to outer space nor a mountain; It is just a building with an old roller coaster in it.

I recommend a big step back, open your mind, and have fun.

Second, there are no fairies and princesses.

There are no princesses in the real world? Don't tell that to Denmark, Thailand, Swaziland, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Luxembourg....

And regarding Space Mountain, the premise is that it's a interstellar transport hub that resembles a mountain.
