Disney World vs. Kennywood Park

ALL RIGHT PITTSBURGHERS, WAY TO REPRESENT!!!! KENNYWOOD WDWMAGIC MEMBERS DAY THIS SUMMER ON ME. I CAN HIT ALL YOU UP AND WE CAN GET A PAVILLION OR SOMETHING THERE!It's nice to know I can relate to peeps on here. Yeah Disney wipes out Kennywood but Kennywood does have advantages like nice value (price). I am suprised to know that Walt sent his imagineers though, that's pretty cool. So being that it's KWOOD's 115th anniversary from opening, are there any rumors based on new rides coming or rides coming back like the Turnpike?

Edit: Jeez who would've thought that there would be a discussion comparing Kwood and WDW.

I haven't heard anything- but there's a rumor that (IS HOPEFULLY TRUE... gawd) that Garfield is getting evicted from the Old Mill.

Hopefully.

Let me poke around and see if I can find anything. :) I know Kennywood now owns that giant piece of property to the right of the entrance- where a thrift store and Kmart (I think?) used to be. But they haven't done anything at all with it... I wonder if they ever will.

Tinkerkell, yes. They removed the Turnpike for a small-ish coaster in its place. :( I miss the T-pike. It was always so cool to walk into the park and see that, instead of the coaster now. Kinda ruins the "welcome home!" that exiting the tunnel used to give.

Is the Turnpike gone?! That was a classic.

Yeah it left 3-4 years ago once they announced the Skyrocket was coming. Yeah soarin girl, I did here they were getting rid of Garfield and going back to the original Old Mill. At least there new ownership group Parquados realidos is making some serious interest/investment into the park. Yeah there were plans once they bought that old Railroad junction that they were going to expand into their and also build a new hotel and Indoor waterpark adjacent to it on the lands of where the Giant Eagle is on the hillside behind where the lift is and that upper parking lot over looking Kwood. Now that would breathe in some life to that ghostown over there.

It seems the Garfield Old Mill rumor has been going for a while. Rumored new coaster for 14/15, but total rumor.

Trust it if you will. :) I do know that prices did go up to a hair under $40 for this year. That kinda sucks.

At least that's something o wait it's screamscape nevermind. If you buy em at GE though, it's like $11-13 cheaper that's what I always do. At least it isn't like WDW where ticket prices are going to reach $100 if not pretty dang close to.

Speaking of which, any Pittsburghese here that have went to the Holiday lights special during december at Kwood? That looks pretty cool and cute for little kids to go to.

Wow! It's been many years since we've been to Kennywood and all of these changes are new to me. The Turnpike was one of the most classic rides.

I remember years ago reading in the news that the pavilion that housed The Whip was damaged in a storm and I'm guessing that is gone too.

Yep the whip roof it's gone and all outdoors. Although I think when the time comes they'll consider putting another roof on it.They even close it down sometimes when there are heavy rain downpours. Yeah I miss the Turnpike but their are strong rumors about it coming back as managment (Parquados Realidos) wants it to bring it back eventually like they did with Bayern Curve. My guess is it would go were the current auto cars ride is next to the train station. Problem their is it is limited in space and wouldn't be able to fit the whole version in that spot. So in disney terms, we would see a "value engineered" version of the turnpike.

So how about Kwood getting on board and selling booze in a Toby Keith red solo cup at the park. At least it's in a designated area. I'd love a hybrid coaster, problem is where you gonna put it cause Kwood aint blessed with much size. Now only if they can SERIOUSLY UPGRADE/REFURB that Noah's Ark attraction that would get me back to visit the park. How has Black Widow fared so far with crowds? That would be something I would try out. We need to form a reliable insider Kwood website like we do here at WDWMAGIC on Disney related news and rumors.

As Hayley Mills would say to all us Pittsburghers in Sherman Bros style:

Let's get together, yeah yeah yeah.
Why don't we all combine?
Let's get together, what do you say?
We can have a swinging time.
We'd be a crazy team.
Why don't we make a scene? Together.

oh, oh, oh, oh
Let's get together, yeah yeah yeah.
Think of all that we could share.
Let's get together, everyday
Every way and everywhere.
And though we haven't got a lot,
We could be sharing all we've got. Together

Let's get together, yeah yeah yeah.
more is great and as nice as one.
Let's get together, right away.
We'll be having twice the fun.
And you can always count on me.
A gruesome force that we will be.
Together, yeah yeah yeah.

I read somewhere that they were moving the Whip to where the picnic tables are (covered) by the Log Jammer. Not sure how much weight that has, though.

I'm not too impressed with the new management. For years KW had consistently opened a new ride every two years- the park was ALWAYS clean and upkeep was excellent. Now it's not so much clean, the maintanence is rough at best and they open one new ride, but close/remove several.

I don't think the Black Widow faired too well with people- the buzz died off very quickly and when I was there, there was barely a line. It looks too much like a puker for my tastes.

2014/15 possible new coaster... I wouldn't hold out hope on it. It really depends on whether they expand the park, or rip out something else to replace it with a new coaster.

If they expand, GREAT! But I just don't see this new, foreign based company sinking millions into expanding KW to the land that was purchased before KW/Sandcastle/Idlewild was sold.

Just went Saturday! I'm very disappointed that they are replacing the carousel food court with a Johnny Rockets. I don't know if the Dole Whip will be available somewhere else in the park.

I think comparing Kennywood (an amusement park) and Dsney World (a theme park) is like comparing apples and oranges. Kennywood was not intended to be spectacular and elaborate the way Disney was. Kennywood is a place for fun, for families, and for Pittsburgh nostalgia. Disney is where people come from across the world, so naturally, it's a more impressive park.
