Sure, but can you have a picnic at WDW? NO!!!!
I had no idea that there are so many members in Pittsburgh. A Pittsburgh WDW fan meet-up must happen this year! Who is with me?!

Not sure how I missed this thread the first time around! We're going to get our Kennywood season passes next week, we love it! No, it's not Disney World. But it's a fun little amusement park, good for Pittsburgh. If anyone has ever seen the movie Adventureland, it was filmed there. ;)

I haven't gone to the holiday lights at KW yet...it's too cold, I hibernate, lol :)

But it looks nice!

(If anyone is ever up for a trip to Phipps conservatory, message me! I go often...and it's very warm there!)
Phipps Conservatory is beautiful during the holidays...and, yes, very warm! I miss being close enough to visit more often. Never been to Kennywood at Christmas, I don't think I realized they had lights, I'll have to visit one year.

Your idea of warm and my idea of warm probably don't align. My idea of blizzard conditions is 58 with dense fog.

My perfect temp is somewhere in the 80s and 'cold' begins at 60 for me.

I'm not your typical pittsburgher. I hate this weather. Can't wait to duck out...as much as I love my city, I frown upon shivering. And wearing socks.

I think we are more alike than you may think. :joyfull:

I don't mean to make you hate me but I took this pic Tues. evening.

Wow look at all the Pittsburgh people here.... Lived all over but born, raised and returned to the Pittsburgh area recently. No idea there were so many of yinz here! If there is a Kennywood meet sometime I would love to attend. Anyone ever go to Idlewild in Ligonier, PA? It is owned by the same company as Kennywood, and is the old boardwalk type of amusement park. It was voted the number one kid's amusement park several years in a row. Course they are not in Disney's league, but they have a charm all their own.

Hope it's warmer in Florida than it's been lately by the 21st, I need to thaw out, it's 4 degrees with a wind chill of 15 below tonight here in the burgh!

I have been to Idlewild, but not since I was a kid. Hoping to take my nieces there in the next couple years. I remember loving it!

They have added to Idlewild a great deal in the last few years. Tastefully for the most part. If you are looking to stay somewhere different when visiting try Linn Run State park. They have really unique cabins that are a true deal. Fireplaces and all wood and stone construction. Nestled on either side of a stream surrounded by woods and nature. Great place to stay when visiting Idlewild. You can make online reservations on the state park website. Hope you have a great visit. We go every year. Very laid back park.

That sounds great, thank you for the tip! :)

I'd like to compare the 7-11 I rode my bike to all the time in the 80s to WDW (any era).

  • Comic books - 7-11 had a large selection, including Groo the Wanderer which I dearly loved. No contest.
  • Slurpees - Our local 7-11 always featured the Classic Coke Slurpee along with 2 lesser flavors. Plus, they always had plentiful domed Slurpee toppers which you could put on top of your Slurpee and you could then spew Slurpee into the domed topper aperture until you had a dome of delicious refreshment. Once again, no contest.
  • Cleanliness - I would give the edge to 7-11, but that would ignore the fact the eastern, exterior corner of the store was used as a toilet by many of the local homeless. It did give the place a sense of realness that WDW lacked, so we'll call it a push.
  • Attractions - Seeing as how this particular 7-11 featured no attractions, this gives the edge to WDW. However, lack of attractions also means lack of queues, so I guess we're back to a push.
  • Price - The exorbitant pricing of many things at the current incarnation WDW makes me feel like a bigwig, so WDW wins hands down.
  • Unattended soda machines - The fact you could go into a 7-11 and with your cup get a squirt of every beverage (all the most common Pepsi and Coke products, tea, coffee, and several kinds of juice) to make a suicide without worry of being timed out by overkill technology means that 7-11 wins hands down.
  • Nighttime spectaculars - WDW wins in a close one.

I'm always up for a trip to Phipps or even a coffee, drop me a message :) I haven't been to Idlewild in...oh god... 15 years? It's been a long time. I don't have kids, so I really don't have reason to go...but I'd like to next summer, regardless. Maybe I'll borrow my cousins kid for the day :)

You in the city or the burbs? And yeah, it's crazy cold....I've about had it.

Still waiting for @Disneyhead'71 to adopt me.

Holidays of lights was a waste of money. Not horrible but for 80 dollars for a family of 4 and have to pay to see Santa is crazy.

I've heard good and bad reports. Personally it's too cold for me, I don't like shivering and if I get cold, I stay cold, and I turn into a monster and PITA to be around.

It's best for all involved if I stay inside :joyfull:

Phipps holiday lights were nice, but I sped through the outdoor part quickly due to the weather. At least the greenhouses were nice and toasty.

And fyi, you can bring your own hot chocolate and save yourself the $4.

It wasn't horrible I a big for the price a pay for vs the product I get. Holiday of lights for 16.99 is to much for what they offer.
