Disney World Travel Times

My husband and I are planning a trip to WDW with our 3 year old daughter in July. We are staying offsite at a time share. I want to schedule a breakfast with characters at either Cinderella's Castle or Chef Mickey's Buffet at the Contemporary Resort. On one website I read that we should allow for 1.5 hours of travel time to get there. Is this true? This will determine what time I make our reservations. Any information you can give would be greatly appreciated.

After I submitted my question I re-read it and confused myself so let me clarify. We are staying 10 min away from WDW. The 1.5 hour is to get from the monorail or ferry to the castle or hotel.

The only time you'd ever need that much time would be in the middle f the day or closing at the absolute busiest times of year. Normally you can get from the TTC to the kingdom or contemp within a half hour. Unless there is a problem or large delay for some odd reason. The max time you need is 45 minutes but that's only if you are paranoid about being late. Like I said the monorail trip will take at most 30 minutes including waiting for one to show up if the resort line has a line (which it usually doesn't. )

Cinderella's Royal Table will take more travel time than Chef Mickey's. I'm assuming you have a car, but I don't know. If you do, you can drive from your timeshare right to The Contemporary. So it should take you 10 minutes, or so, to get there.

If you dine at Cinderella's Royal Table, I would give yourself more time. You'll have to get to the parking lot, and then take the tram & the monorail. Once you get there, you will need to get park tickets if you don't have them. Then you'll need to get through security. So it does take more time than you think - I was in that same situation on my honeymoon. We ended up getting there in time, but thought we'd be there a lot earlier to get some pictures of the park empty.

That's why they say to give yourself 1.5 hours. At least give yourself an hour. You can always check in early, which is better than missing your reservation. :)

I agree that it is always better to be safe than sorry. I don't like feeling rushed and that I don't have enough time.

I would say that breakfast at the castle would take more time than Chef Mickey's for the above stated reasons. It is also nice to get there a bit earlier since then you can have some photopass pictures taken and take some of your own.

They also give the time of 1.5 hours because they tell you to check in at least 15 minutes before your check in time. With taking the transportation to the park, getting into the park etc. it can sometimes take awhile. Especially if you have a reservation time after the park is already open.

You will need to be parking your car up in the MK parking lot with a MINIMUM of an hour before your breakfast at Cindys. If you choose to eat at Chef Mickeys then you will need around 20-30 mins from when you park up (if you park at the Contemporary) or again around an hour if your parking in the MK lots and getting the monorail

We stay offsite, 1 mile outside the parks and allowed 1 hour to get to the Contemporary, get parked, and walk in. Got there a few minutes early to which we looked around some before checking in at Chef Mickeys.
