Disney World & Taxis??

I think I am one of few that actually thinks the increased price for the MK deluxes is worth it to avoid the bus system, even if it's only for 2 parks. However, I came across a post this week discussing taking a taxi from the park!! I have never heard of this and am very curious how it works?!?!? Where do you catch a cab (ticket and transportation center? By buses?)? Where does the cab drop you off at the hotel (i.e., your building or the lobby)? Are they pretty reasonably priced or waaaay overpriced? Will they pick you up from your hotel and take you to the parks? Any info is greatly appreciated!!

There are taxi stands at DHS and DAK, I think the stand at TTC serves both Epcot and MK [haven't seen one at Epcot]. Each resort either has taxis waiting near the entrance or can call one that'll be there fairly promptly.

I don't know how cost-effective it would be to use taxis for on-property transportation, the only time I've done so myself was to get from resort to resort for an early breakfast.

I take taxi's all the time leaving EPCOT and MK. I watch Illuminations from near the International Gateway, usually by France, then I walk the IG to Boardwalk, go through to their lobby and outside where I get a taxi to take me to my resort. I usually stay at POFQ and it's about 14 bucks. Well worth it to me to have a leisurely walk and be at my resort quickly.

From MK, I have walked to the Contemporary resort and have gotten a taxi at their front door. I have also done the same thing by riding the monorail to Polynesian to watch the fireworks from the beach and then gone to their entrance and catch a cab back to my resort.

If I have a breakfast ADR at a resort, I will take a taxi from my resort to wherever the ADR is.

Love the bus system but not afraid to use a taxi. The drivers rarely speak and sometimes the quiet is very, very welcome!

Taxi's at Epcot can be found in the farther bus stop area. They pick up near the charter buses that go to off property resorts.

We use taxis alot while at WDW. A ride will average about $15 with tip and never paid more then $20. You can get a taxi from just about anywhere...at the resorts just talk to the cast member at the bell station outside and they will hale you a cab. MK is the only park that you cant see the cabs from the bus depot area...you have to go over to TCC. Down town Disney they are on the closer to Plant Hollywood. We have never had any issues with a cab ride or a driver. I plan for about 5 or 6 cab rides a trip over 9/10 days and just add it to our spending cash budget. We find that we use them mostly in the evenings. Park closing or after dinner at a different resort.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just rent a car for your stay? That way you have the freedom to go anywhere in Orlando during your stay...

Depends on how often you would be using the cab vs using the car; also if you want to drive or not. We don't drive while on vacation in WDW.

We drive from Georgia, so, we always have a car, but, after we go get groceries (DVC and mostly breakfast, water and Coke Zeros), we park the car and it doesn't move.

We are more cheap than impatient!

one night from downtown disney we took a taxi to the Riverside. It was about $10-15. Well worth it because the bus stop was packed. We caught a taxi in front of the world of disney.

Deluxe resorts bus service is no better than a values, IMHO. I actually found it worse. While staying at WL, we had to share buses with FtW to the parks. And share with GF and Poly to go DtD!

Renting a cab is a great move after the fireworks at Epcot. Back at your hotel in 5 minutes for $15. No waiting in line for 30 minutes and best of all: NO SCOOTERS HOLDING UP THE LINE!! :ROFLOL:

I agree. I ate dinner at the Boardwalk and waited over an hour for a bus to take me to downtown disney. At POP, I have never waited more than 20 minutes.

i agree too...boardwalk, yacht, beach, swan, and dolphin all share a single bus to/from mk yet pofq only sometimes shares with por depending on the time of year.
