You know, it's kind of funny that we're talking about Disney cracking down on internet music copyright violations. The way I see it, Disney has been just about the coolest company out there in dealing with the use of their material on the internet. After all, all of you Audiogalaxy users out there will have probably noticed that Disney hasn't asked AG to block ANY of their songs, which blows my mind. Just about every popular artist out there (and a whole heap of unpopular artists) has made at least some effort to keep their songs off of Audiogalaxy and have files bearing the title of their property "X-ed" out, but Disney hasn't. Just think of all the sites out there offering clips of Disney songs and pictures.
So why hasn't Disney cracked down on this sort of thing? Because they're finally beginning to learn what WDW CMs have known all along: that p***ing off their fanbase isn't going to make them any money. Why get on the case of someone downloading Haunted Mansion music? Sure, they might pirate the music and NOT buy Disney's $17 HM CD, but on the other hand listening to those sound files is great free advertisement, and makes her more likely to pay for a $2,000 Disney vacation for her family. I really doubt Disney's going to barge into this board and shut it down over a few soundfiles and risk angering potential guests. Besides, Disney has no one to blame but themselves for not marketing more WDW music sooner. The demand's always been here, but all through the 80's and early 90's the only WDW music you could get was what they put on their compilation CDs.
Plus, it's probably too much of a hastle for Disney to go through and sort out all their music copyrights over and over again, seeing as how a lot of "their" music is just re-recordings of folktunes, a lot of it is owned by private artists, and more and more of it is going to start becoming public domain eventually, especially in other countries.
