Fake exclusivityWhy not just buy more items and sell as many as people want to buy?
then scalpers magically have 15 family members show up with themOne limited edition item for each AP in the family. That should be the limit.
Make them show their AP cards, and nick the edge for each limited edition item purchase.
Suspend the AP for 30 days the first time they try to buy more than they're entitled to.
Revoke the AP and permanently ban them the next time they try it.
Exclusivity? I thought the current concept was make it look exclusive but sell as many as you can. You know $$$$$$$Fake exclusivity
Production and opportunity costs. They don't want to risk sitting on surplus stock. Considering how people bought all the Splash Mountain merchandise the day the park opened this is an unlikely scenario they are worried about. Why not just buy more items and sell as many as people want to buy?
I just wanted one shirt or a Hoodie but nope can't get that unless I pay Scalper prices...
sometimes they get stuck...... these were originally well over 100 dollars...
If Disney would just sell the stuff on ShopDisney, they could solve the whole resale dilemma and increase their own sales…
If they ever tried to use payment method to track limits, I could see using gift cards as a work around to this; especially with Disney gift cards being available at so many different retailers. One could just load up on GCs (and even at a discount if from target, or warehouse store) and go through all those and pitch them when they use up the value. They'd have a different payment number each time.
There is only so much you can do, but it certainly makes it harder, and if it even deters a few people that's a win. It won't eliminate it, but should have an impact. I know a few people that like to collect items, and they have remarked how much more difficult it has gotten due to these people that resell online...at least it is if you refuse to pay the upcharge by those that do this. The number of people that do this seems to have exponentially increased in recent times.
I've posted before that dis should open offsite bulk sales windows for the resellers. They are only getting the AP discount right? By the time you do packing and shipping they have to sell it for more than Disney can so let them have at it. Resellers stay in the game just not in the parks and dis still makes their obscene markup. More merch for everyone.
OH, @Wrangler-Rick they absolutely should be selling it online for full price, the days of park exclusive merch are waning fast.

My hat is not StupidI think some things should be park exclusive. Having an "I went to the Magic Kingdom at Halloween and bought a stupid hat" hat should be something only for those who did actually go to the park.
I agree there are items that have priceless value to the individual that actually went to the park / venue and obtained said item that can only be found at that park / venue. The value is not necessarily the item but that the person went there, experienced the place and obtained this special exclusive remembrance. If an item w a limited time of availability becomes available through Shop Disney Parks that I truly want but can not make it to the parks I will probably buy it and still go to the parks later. That said, I will never buy anything through the secondary market specially not at a 30+% mark up just to have it. There would be no satisfaction nor would I have any memories connected with it.I think some things should be park exclusive. Yes, but if Disney limits the availability by only allowing a limited number to be sold per day and continues to order and restock the item, you would have a better chance of buying it from Disney. Then you would have bots buying everything within seconds.
