Disney World and Tripadvisor.....

I've never really understood looking at a price, thinking it is too expensive and then paying for it only to complain later. $ Hour waits? go during the off season. How people can spend thousands of dollars on a vacation and not do research is beyond me. Yes it is very expensive and can be busy, but if you do a bit of planning you can save time and money and possibly enjoy yourself. Lots of resources online to help people.

People are just not smart about how they approach Disney or they can't afford to be there. That covers 90% of the complaints. They don't understand where to go and when, how to get there, and how to maximize their time and money.

I see people at the parks "doing it wrong" all the time and they'll come back with a negative opinion because of it.

Let's face it. Many people going to Disney have little or no savings, a lot of debt, and are under a lot of stress just to get their family to Florida and pay for it with their already maxed out credit cards. I think you'd have a much better time if you can wait to go when it's not such a big part of your budget.

From s TripAdvisor Magic Kingdom review, And I quote,

"
Ok, I think the people who like this park better than Sea World, Universal, etc, are a bit strange because one thing is that this is the most oldest park in Florida and has NO ride that goes upside down. Why does every other park has one ride that does? That's is pretty sad if you think about it.
Most of the lines aren't themed eather while most other parks DO."

Karate chop to the neck indeed.......

It's not always as simple as "go during the off season". There are a lot of people who can't take time off for job or other reasons. You just can't take kids out of school for 5-10 days dying the off season. Yes, there are a lot of online resources, must most of us are here because we are repeat visitors, not first timers. You can go to Six Flags, Sea World, Cedar Point, etc without much planning. To the first time WDW visitor, they may, incorrectly, assume it's the same thing.

but most people also don't take a 7 day vacation to sea world. Yes, if you're taking a first time day trip to WDW and come under prepared you may find some sympathy with me. But I find it SO hard to believe that people take a week long expensive vacation ANYWHERE - let alone WDW- and don't do any research about the place they're going.

Heading for the great escape.
Im horrified, some people have the temerity to like different things from me. Truly shocking, but then they weren't born with my unerring good taste and class.

Just as well really or Id never get to do the things I like.

Before getting your gusset moist at the comment about your favourite multinational, perhaps youd do well to remember that Trip Advisor is a community that seems to base restaurant reviews on the establishments ability to serve a meal for less than $10 and being somewhere not main stream.

You may be right, but reading this and many other travel forums, there seem to be a lot of people who either don't do any research, don't do adequate research or have unrealistic expectations based on their lack of first hand experience with the place they are about to visit. Think back to your first visit. All the research in the world is unlikely to prepare the first time visitor for the enormity and complexity of WDW. I have a similar conversation with my wife all the time. Just because YOU are intelligent enough and diligent enough to do research , learn how things work, etc, that doesn't mean every one else is the same way or even capable of doing the same thing.

I think its important to remember there are a lot of families who say "I went to Disney this summer" but mean "I went to Orlando this summer" and tried to squeeze 4 WDW parks, 2 Uni parks AND Sea World into a one week vacation. With WDW's approach of 180 day reservations (honestly we NEVER know 180 days in advance because of the way my husband's work bids vacation) for dining, advance FPs etc.,

You should have seen the look on my girls faces when we were in line for the carousel at MK. A multi-generational family group was in line behind us and three of the kids came running up screaming "Those Fast Pass things ARE FREE!" two dads and grandpa were like '''yeah right...nothings free at Disney" but grandma did say they would look into after the ride. This was at 8 PM I can only hope it was day one for this family. But my WDW veteran girls had this look that said it all "Seriously????"

I don't. Most people, when they go on vacation, they're on turn-brain-off-reboot-when-it's-time-to-leave mode. Cruises, all-inclusive resorts where many people never leave the grounds, camping/fishing trips, even trips to major cities or other tourist destinations, they figure they'll wake up and go where the day takes 'em, and they hate being in a situation where they have to plan. A WDW trip is nightmarish for them.

I post pretty regular to TripAdvisor my honest opinions of places we visit. Good or bad, I try and give an accurate and complete descriptions of the place and why I gave it the rating I did. The ones that bug me the most though are when they say they had a bad experience and will never go back because of something completely un-related and uncontrollable.

Interesting, somewhat related story. I tried to post a review of Pop Century from a trip we took in May, and in my review I mentioned that myself and another in our party got sick because of something only the two of us ate at Epcot. In my comments, I actually mentioned the word "food poisoning". A couple of days later, I received an email from one of their reviewers (they review all posts prior to publicly displaying), stating that they would not approve my review because I used those words, and it seemed un-related to the hotel, and if I wanted it posted I would have to re-write it leaving out the food poisoning part. I agree with the reviewers decision, except my whole point in including it was to point out the excellent service we received from the staff at Pop to assist us during this "unfortunate time of stomach illness which may or may not have been related to something we ate outside the hotel". In my review I actually gave the hotel and the staff high marks, in spite of illness because they went above and beyond what I would have expected at a value resort, but I relented and just didn't post it because I was too lazy to re-write the whole thing.

So, in light of my experience, I really find it interesting when I read some others' reviews.

I can tell you that my fiance and I have been struggled financially to pay off all of our upcoming Honeymoon at WDW but we will definitely enjoy it. Having little or no savings, a lot of debt, and it being such a big part of our budget won't deter us from having a great time and loving WDW. People not being smart about how they approach Disney? Sure that's a valid point about people who complain, but saying that people complain because they are not well off financially is not.

Maybe not in your situation, but logically you know people are under financial pressure just to be there. It detracts from their fun and certainly makes guests more on edge.

I think most of these negative reviews are due to their own ignorance on a Disney vacation, they simply don 't understand the amount of planning involved. These are the people who pay the rack rate for the hotel, that buy the one day one park ticket at each park each day. Many people simply think going to Disney World is like going to Six Flags, and the ignorance and lack of planning causes them to have a very poor Disney experience.

Walking down Main Street on a trip in 2008, making our way to the Castle and overheard a family of five passing us as they argued:

Teenaged Son: "MOM! When do we see Shamu? I don't see any signs anywhere."

Exasperated Mom: "It's up here somewhere, now stop talking and hurry up!"

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

So yes. People don't plan. Or research.

I know people who thought, until recently, that Uni was just a branch off of Disney.

I also know people who think WDW is synonymous with the MK... rather than MK being a part of WDW. One night at dinner with friends, we were talking about our trip, particularly our time in Epcot, and my friend looks at me and says, "I thought you were going to Disney World?"

Can't make this stuff up... lol
